One by one, if you will…
Blade Runner
Primer
It’s hard for me to separate “philosophical movies” from movies I like because I end up thinking intently about all of them. If you’re like me then you know what I mean.
[tab]List just one? That proves too difficult for me.
The Last Lions
Waking Life
Michael Clayton
Contact
Gattaca
Minority Report[/tab]
Yep
I only watch philosophically good movies.
I meant that a great many more movies can be considered philosophical if you extend and interrogate movie themes and events with a philosophical frame of mind.
Indeed. I want you to suggest any movie that you consider fits here at the time that you write it.
I know
I was just deliberately misrepresenting your statement and then gloating.
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Crash
Gattaca
Minority Report
Alvin and the Chipmunks
One that is not very obvious but definitely amazing: The United States of Leland.
2001: A Space Odyssey
And of course Fight club: anarchism and violence, how could that not appeal to the philosopher, no matter what his want?
The Matrix Trilogy
Really? You are including Reloaded and Revolutions?
I always thought the politician was the most convincing character in this film. His points actually came down to earth.
Other great films in this genre:
Pi, Quest For Fire, 21 Grams, Ran etc.
A Battle of Wits (1996… only movie I’ve seen with Mohist Philosophy at it’s core)

Confucius (2010… pretty badass movie centered around Confucius’ life)

Kin Dza Dza! (Soviet movie… about the 1980s, best movie ever made under Marxism, in two parts, quite long and hilarious)

The Holy Mountain (by Alejandro Jodorowsky… everyone was literally put on LSD in the movie while it was filmed)

Zardoz (1974… Sean Connery is the Nietzschean crossdressing Superman killing off the human race)

The Pervert’s Guide to the Cinema (the philosopher Zizek made a movie about all the flicks he used to jack to)

Dune 1984, Dune Miniseries and Children of Dune

Lol no just no to all of them.
“There is no spoon…”
“Yeah there is you pale little retard look.”
My favorite film.
But violence and anarchy are simply plot devices. That’s not what the movie is about at all.
