I always hear and read about women virgin martyrs. They were beautiful and refuse to married, and rejected rich and powerful men, and vow their virginity for christ, then died or should I say glory to be god. There are so many great stories or is it nursery tales about most of them.

I have very little experience with virgins or virginity for that matter, so it’s hard for me to understand all of this.
I do know that we use the word virgin having different meanings… For instance we have virgin olive oil - even extra virgin olive oil! I really don’t want to know what the olives have been doing…
My recommendation is to find the word that virgin was translated from and find its etymology. You will find the real meaning easier than asking a board full of people with thier own ideas as opposed to the truth!

That others may see something different doesn’t of necessity make them wrong. Etymology is a good way to understand how meaning is applied in its evolution over time., but it is understanding we’re after, and that relies on how a word is used then and now. Words are dependent on the experience not the other way around.

I have often seen things taken out of context… and sometimes not because the person is ignorant of the real meaning of a word… its just that it has become a habit to use that word in that way.

Astral, I have heard many times that it was common practice for Romans to nail victims on the wrist. That way the nail would be wedged in between the radius and the ulna. Weight would be pulling the victim down and if the wrist joint was not there to hold the victim up, the nail would just rip right through the hand.
