If people weren't making money off of selling the bible, would it have made it this far? :-k

lol there is a reason why it sells like hot cakes. Because it is the only truth.

If you don't know anything about copyrights or translations of the bible, please refrain from your usual brilliant and insightful comments.

Just change some words the name and bang you have a copyright free Bible. Instead of old text use modern words. Instead of specific named books Call them chapters or sections 1 through whatever number of books are in the bible.

Problem solved.

Soldout, if it were only truth, then there would not be so much controversy. Heck, the different versions of the original biblical texts to prove that. The truth can only get stretched so far before it breaks.

Harry Potter sells too. So does porn. Truth doesn't lead to marketability.

Okay okay. Arguing from the point that christianity's claims are true and that's why it sells.

There was a time when only certain people were allowed to read the Bible and the common folk wanted to be able to. Now, you can virtually get a free one and no one cares to read it...go figure.

Maybe it shows that knowledge and lack of faith go hand in hand.

Interesting post Bane. I guess that I couldn't doubt that people try to make money off the Bible. After all, isn't that what got you to look into the Copyright law? But I don't think that profit is always the motive. I remember when one of the churches I attended published some original music/lyrics. Their lawyer recommended getting a copyright to protect the church. It seems that there have been cases of people copyrighting uncopyrighted published material and then filing a suit against the original publishers for copyright infringement. People are sooo clever sometimes.

You'd have to pay for the paper and ink. :)

Even the old KJV is copyrighted. I think the WEB, though unfinished, is the only possibility.

Are you sure? How could it be?

Sorry to get off topic here for a second, but I think receipes can not be copyrighted or plagiarized. If they are sold in printed form, they can copied and put out on the internet if it is desired.

Koifer and Soldout,

How will you recognize absolute truth? Unless we have predetermined criteria as to what it is, we seek a phantom. The best criterion I've been able to come up with for truth is "that which helps man to avoid pain and attain happiness". I have always had trouble with the limited view of truth that says it is anything that you can determine with your 5 physical senses. I have a strong feeling that we have only evolved senses that help us survive in our environment. THere could be a thousand realities out there that we have not evolved the senses to perceive, so we have no way to realize how they might be affecting us.

JUst after posting my last post here, I went to YAHOO to read my mail and found this on the yahoo news page. Its a clip from the 60 minutes show that illustrates the type of things I wonder about, in my last post.
