Edit posts in Mundane Babble?

Postby anon » Wed May 25, 2011 2:19 pm

Hi all. I can't edit my posts in a thread I made in Mundane Babble. Is this on purpose?

Hmmmm. I dunno. PM me a post that you want to edit.

I'm not really very good with this stuff, so this will probably have to wait until an intelligent member of staff sees this.

It's the Anon's OP's to Date thread. I was intending on quietly adding links as I go, so it's not a one-time thing. I wouldn't put you guys through that. No big deal.

There is a function that locks a post to prevent editing. So far as i can tell, the post is not locked. And I think I would be able to tell. So.........

The edit button was being regularly abused to delete posts, which made the threads they were in incoherent. As a result, editing was limited site-wide to 48 hours following posting.

This seems like a worthy exception, though, I'll see what other options there are that would let you make the edits your asking about. I'll let you know this evening.

Sorry, Anon, no dice for the time being. I thought there was a permission I could give you that would override the board limit, or maybe give MB an exception, but the controls provided in phpBB aren't that fine grained.

There are modifications I could make to the board software, but I don't have the time now and won't for at least a month -- I'm moving out of my apartment in 4 days, and I'll be on the road all summer. I'm happy to make any edits you need from now until June, at which point my contact will be sporadic and you'd be better off asking another mod.

I know the current editing policies aren't ideal, I have it on my post-move list to make the necessary modifications, but that will be mid July at the earliest.

Thanks a lot you guys. But the golden rule definitely applies here.

Seriously, thanks. It's really not a big deal. I just thought maybe there had been an error in the permissions or something.

I really appreciate what you guys do.

Yeah.. thanks Anon, as all we've (well mainly I've) been getting is negativity and abuse.... apart from from the lovely HTH whom I miss :(

There's nothing wrong with being nice/polite/well-mannered, but that type seems to attract it's haters :confusion-shrug:

The Narcissist exists whereby every activity and relationship is defined by the hedonistic need to acquire the symbols of spiritual wealth, this becoming the only expression of rigid, yet covert, social hierarchies. It is a culture where liberalism only exists insofar as it serves a consumer society, and even art, sex and religion lose their liberating power.
