The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Postby d0rkyd00d » Mon Jan 05, 2009 6:44 pm

Just saw this movie over the weekend...I thought it was excellent. It was a tad too long, but otherwise, very good.

It made me think a lot about life, which will probably eventually lead to a post in another forum. :-)

Anybody else have any comments on this?
"We have heard talk enough. We have listened to all the drowsy, idealess, vapid sermons that we wish to hear. We have read your Bible and the works of your best minds. We have heard your prayers, your solemn groans and your reverential amens. All these amount to less than nothing. We want one fact. We beg at the doors of your churches for just one little fact. We pass our hats along your pews and under your pulpits and implore you for just one fact. We know all about your mouldy wonders and your stale miracles. We want a this year's fact. We ask only one. Give us one fact for charity. Your miracles are too ancient. The witnesses have been dead for nearly two thousand years." -Robert Ingersoll

Yeah, excellent flick. I thought the ending was a little bit of a let down, but the story was what the movie was about. This is from an F. Scott Fitzgerald story, but other than the title and the being born old story line, that's supposed to be about all that's in common. Pitt and Blanchett were well cast and deserve at least Oscar™ nominations.

I caught this film yesterday and really enjoyed it...I sensed a very 'beat' attitude in Pitt's character, some of the shots of him on the motorbike I could so easily see if they put Kerouac's 'On The Road' onto the big screen...cool film 8)

Wasn't too bad of a movie. I think the start dragged a little, but once he left the senior's home, it picked up.

The biggest topic that I ended up dwelling on after the movie was the nature of acceptance of death when you grow up in such a death-filled atmosphere. I remember him commenting on the fact that people came and went so suddenly in the retirement home, and I wonder if we all grew up in such a home would we all be so afraid of death?

Made me cry. Should have beat Slumdog Millionaire at the Oscars, no doubt. A great film. The beginning dragged, perhaps purposefully, but as the film went on it just got better and better. I loved even the cheesy and unrealistic parts, like the WWII scene of the fishing boat taking on a German sub. The acting was impeccable, simply top of the line. Blanchet, who is always phenomenal, had me utterly under her character's spell, and Pitt should have won an Oscar. If he wins won in the near future it'll be partly because of his performance in Benjamin Button. Best film of the year, hands down.

i thought it was a good movie as well. i havent read fitz's story, but the story in the film is interesting and keeps you hooked. the life-changing events, and the changing timeframes as he "ages" are also interesting from a historical standpoint. but basically, i just think that the characters were really compelling and sucked you into the story... the acting really makes you care about what happens to them, which is a halmark of a good film.

I saw the movie when it first came out and I absolutely loved it. I was very impressed with the acting. I agree that it was perfectly cast. I couldn't wait to see it when I saw it advertised, the concept caught my attention. Once I saw it though, my amazement went far beyond the concept. The movie certainly provokes thought.

Interesting. I thought this was truly one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I wonder why? Oh well, variety is the spice of life I guess.
