Top 5 Video Game Experiences:

1.) When I was twelve years old I played all the way through, The Legends of Zelda: A Link to the Past, without dying, without saving, and pausing only to take a piss, three ten-minute eating breaks, and to switch cassette tapes (Though it was mostly Night Ranger’s Greatest Hits). Fairy in a Bottle, motherfuckers, Fairy in a Bottle…

I can’t think of an appropriate next catagory.
Magic, Porn, RPG games like dungeons and dragons.

I’ll take RPG’s for $200, Alex.

Me and my brother james usedto design games. I call them fantasy games. You need a vivid imagination.
The narorator creates a virtual world and it is his job to describe it.
Your goal is to survive and progress in the world.

James calls these games APGs “Anything is possible games”.

I recently made one that i play by myself. My inspiration was a mix of master of orion, civII, and star trek.
It is one of my favorites of all time right now.

Years ago we played dragon ball z games and final fantasy psi fi games too.

Those are some of my favorite things ever.

Does anyone here have any self made games?

I have two self-made games, but they’re embarassing.

1.) I have one game that’s a solitare card game, and you have eight teams that all play one another once (discluding four-team playoff) and it’s a hockey game. Each team gets one card per period, and if the card is between 2-7, then they did not score that period, if it is between 8-J, then they scored one goal that period, Q-K is two goals and an ace is three goals. The highest card value wins in overtime, if necessary, the same value, pursuant to the above, results in a tie.

Anyway, you can just start with the top team on the list playing each team below it once, so you might end up with something like:

Philadelphia Flyers: 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 5-2
Toronto Maple Leafs: 0-1
Boston Bruins: 1-0
Pittsburgh Penguins: 0-1
Montreal Canadiens: 0-1
Columbus Blue Jackets: 1-0
Detroit Red Wings: 0-1
New Jersey Devils: 0-1

Then, the Toronto Maple Leafs would play every team below them once, and so on.

The Top 4 teams go to the Playoffs, and any ties are decided by head-to-head, if there’s a three-way tie and head-to-head doesn’t work, then it goes to points scored.

2.) Tennis Ding

-I worked at a tennis court once when I was eighteen and for four months. I was alone up there much of the time, and it could get boring if you were unwilling to be imaginative.

Anyway, there was a picnic table and a gold plaque above this outdoor fireplace. I would set up eight teams which were just entirely comprised of me playing the game with myself. Each team would get ten throws per game, if you threw the ball straight at the plaque and caught it in the air you would get five points, but it was risky, because if you did anything other than catch it in the air, you got nothing, also, if you missed the plaque, you got nothing. If you bounced the ball off of the picnic table, hit the plaque, and caught it in the air that was three points. If you bounced the ball off the table, hit the plaque, and caught it on the first bounce, that was two points. If you bounced the ball off the table, missed the plaque, hit the wall, and caught it in the air, that was one point. Any other result was zero points.

The Top 4 teams went to the Playoffs, same rules.

It was funny because sometimes friends would come to visit me, (it was allowed as long as you didn’t ignore customers, and I never played the game when I had customers, I read a book and listened to the radio) and I would continue my game while they were pulling into the lot because I didn’t really care what they thought. Anyway, they’d come up looking at me like I was crazy because I’d be bouncing the ball off the picnic table, hitting the plaque, diving on cement to catch the ball before it bounced, and writing stuff in a notebook after every few throws, looking batshit crazy!

They weren’t laughing after they inquired about the Rules and got a few throws in, though. It was a highly addictive game! Pretty soon I had 1-3 of my friends at work with me everyday because they wanted to play against me!!!***

***I tried to make the Rules more complicated, one point if it hit the plaque and you caught it after two bounces, double-points for throwing with your opposite hand, half-point bonuses for catching with your opposite hand only…but they never caught on.

Top 5 Made Up Games:

1.- Trans-pool volleyball: There were two pools at my cousin’s building side by side, one small and the other regular sized. We would throw balls from the big pool and one guy in the little pool had to keep them out. If he couldn’t, the one who got the ball in got his turn in the small pool.

2.- The floor is lava: Not really original, as I later found out, but I didn’t copy it from anybody.

3.- Lance throwing: Find a very long, somewhat heavy metal pole that is thin enough. Find a place outside where other humans rarely pass. Or animals. Make sure there is soft soil so that the pole can stick to the ground and look really cool. Take turns throwing the lance at eachother. Don’t get hit.

4.- Naked drunk racing: It wasn’t a gay thing, I swear. If anybody on this forum has never gotten plastered yet, try it when you finally do (it has to be one of your first times). Run naked as fast as you can. You have to be drunk enough that it is actually a dangerous idea.

5.- Drunk fighting: Same rules as fight club, usually no punching in the face also, and everybody MUST be drunk.

books (judged by my ratings on goodreads)

Grapes of Wrath - Steinbeck
Grendel - John Gardner
Ham on Rye - Bukowski
Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera
Notes from Underground - Dostoyevski

I think you have to be American to like the Grapes of Wrath the dust bowl had no resonance for me and although the book was well written, I could not empathise with the characters. I did not make it into the last chapter, it seemed too obvious what was going to happen. I think Southpark when they internet goes down, a satire of it spoke to me more, sadly. Steinbeck was a superb author, Of Mice And Men I read in school, and loved it even though I was forced to read it, but this book kinda left me a little nonchalant.

Kudos for the Dostoyevski though, my favourite is Crime and Punishment atm, but then I haven’t got around to reading them all yet. The Devils I didn’t like so much, too many characters, my memory couldn’t cope.
