Skyrim: kicking dragon ass

Yeah the main quest is not that tough, I’d say the last quest can be a challenge, but since I had the sword of Lothar or whatever, I luckily wasn’t that mobbed even on master. At 60 you should be the all singing all dancing crap o’ the world at the game by now. Kudos by the way, 60 is a logarithmic amount away from 49. I’m running out of side quests at 49, maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Good luck.

On a side note, how does one find Daedra to kill, I have only ever found one place they lived in and I cleared that. Trying to make all the Daedric armour but I’ve only found 2 hearts so far, 1 in an alchemists shop, 1 in the companion leaders rooms. Ie me.

Also why is ebony armour worse than steel plate? I get less armour when wearing a legendary ebony full suite, than wearing a legendary steel plate full suit? I’m thinking they forgot to include the all armour of a type bonus from the higher skill armours? It is odd. I’m just praying that Daedric includes the 25% bonus otherwise, I recommend no one who’s heavy goes beyond it? And that seems such a shame!

Glad I cottoned onto this game a little late too. I just did another Daedra quest, it was clearing out corrupted spirits from a tomb. At the end her blessedness brought me up to near space and gave me a “mighty” weapon, then she let me free fall at terminal velocity to the ground and die. Now it might be just a sick Daedra jape, but I checked the web and the only easy way to avoid instant death on PC is to turn on TGM, The God Mode so you don’t die. I turned it off again I am already good enough.

I’ve done the Thieves guild stuff and am on the Assassins guild stuff now, using a bow for the first time, and the cool Thieves guild stuff to make my sneak worth using with my nice light armour (improved of course). Kinda fun learning new skills and I think it’s essential to diversify to get up levels, even though I’ve always been a jack of all trades type char, I’m missing a lot of skill sets.

I leveled up my combat skills and armor a long time ago (by lvl 30), so now every time my character levels up from other skills (sneak, healing, etc.) enemies grow a little stronger and it’s no longer quite as effortless to obliterate them. That’s good though because as I round out my character by developing other skills, the game actually becomes a little more challenging. I’m playing on master, too.

I haven’t done much with Daedric weaponry or armor. I like the look of the Ebony and it’s worked well enough so far. I also have the ability to cast two enchantments on a single piece of equipment, so there’s that. Also, I haven’t encountered any dragon equipment yet, I’m guessing that’s saved for some of the final quests or something?

Decided to take some screenshots:

Zarathustra lvl 8 (older screenshot)

Zarathustra lvl 60

Thanks

I have one set of dragon armour gloves I found randomly in a chest in an almost deserted tower that lead to a dungeon, it’s light armour, but obviously very good light armour. So its worth getting if you want to magic it up and go burgling and what not. I presume all them scales and bones are what you make the armour with, so I’ve saved about 12 of each so far. No idea though obviously. 3 bits of Daedric now, gonna get it and magic it up, as an all ebony suit is worse than steel plate for some bizarre reason. Hoping all the perk bonuses apply to Daedric at least? Otherwise it’s a pretty stupid bug.

Lvl 51 now

Spoiler for Assassin final quest, ish.

[tab]I killed The Emperor but he was such a ruddy nice bloke about it I granted him a last wish an killed his contractor for him also, after I found out where the payment was of course. Seriously The Emperor, bloody nice bloke, no begging for his life, rational, resigned and totally unafraid. He even turned his back to me so I could kill him fast. The Councilman (Proconsul Senator I guess) was a coward and it felt good to end him.

Decent chap all round Titus, I would of felt sorry about it but I’ve done much worse, and if I hadn’t done it lets face it sooner or later some novice would try and get lucky.

With the Assassins Guild when they say marked for death they tend to mean it.[/tab]

Archery is 25 now and sneak 51, light armour 42. With the thieves guild armour and the Assassin power I can go anywhere, although I still get caught sometimes. Smithing is 96, but I’m in no hurry to get the dragon armour, as the Nightingale armour is pretty sweet when improved. Enchanting is 72, as is Alchemy too. It’s useful for healing potions and invisibility potions which sell for 600s-700s sometimes. I don’t think I’m going to get enough perks for the double enchantment, but meh we shall see.

Fuse is that the Ebony bow or the Nightingale bow? I presume its the Nightingale bow as that one’s better with +30 frost and +10 lightning damage. Daedric arrows are quite rare though, and you can’t make them. So I use mostly Ebony and give the Daedric to my companion who can shoot straight at least.

The Daedric armour looks evil, I gave it to my companion for the time being, until I get the last bit.

I seriously underestimated archery though, because I specialised in magic and 1H weapons, it’s pretty effective from sneaking and with perks I bet 1 shot kills are easily possible. The Expert destruction spells kinda blow tbh, although the restoration heal is pretty good. I’m hoping the master spells make up for them, 84 destruction, 74 Restoration atm.

Kinda forgot, I’m back on the Stormcloak war side, I got arrested outside of Windhelm, and this time the penance involved money and no jail time. So I paid it off, well I am loaded. I’m still miffed though that I got caught in the first place, sneak attack from behind no witnesses and yet the psi squad turned up in force. Definitely a flaw with the game there. Doing a job earlier as well, I couldn’t sneak up and kill the target without getting 1000 riften bad boy points even with an invisibility potion and success in being undetected, in the end I managed to avoid being “seen/heard stroke psychically radar caught” by psi squad by killing her, and jumping in a lake. But ffs why that worked and the other times didn’t is beyond me! I’m fricking invisible and have sneak bonuses so far up the whing wang, with armour etc, that God couldn’t detect me! People, throw me a fricking bone, do these guys who aren’t around anyway have some sort of superhuman powers to see and or hear the invisible from miles away! Ah well. Quests are turning up in unexpected places, but being down to only 10 side quests unnerves me.

addendum to Assassin guild quests:

[tab]still evil but killing a poor fishwife I thought was a bit unnecessary, I think the guild mother is a bit mental, but will reserve judgement for the time being. Emperors yes, they deserve it, hazard of politics, but nobodies? I should start questioning the contracts more, I do but what are you the client doing making a contract on harmless people? Ah well I suppose money is money, and a life’s a life of equal value no matter what its status, it’s a kill or be killed business, I wouldn’t be the leader of the guild if I had any morals…[/tab]

I always wished you could join the Penitus Oculatus and take part in the same missions, except you defend the people marked for assassination(the higher ranking ones anyhow), seeing as how certain parts of the story only progress if you join the Dark Brotherhood.

Yeah it does seem biased towards Skyrim’s freedom, mind you I’ve never done any Empire stuff. Would also love to save someone instead of just killing them. But then the Assassins guild stuff is not straightforward or easy so I’ll live.

Incidentally I just found out that Ebony armour is bugged and does not receive the second +25% bonus on the heavy armour perk line, apparently everyone in the known universe knows it but they haven’t fixed it, probably a little late now. Daedric is unaffected apparently. Also found out Enthir in the mages hold sells 2 Daedra hearts at a time. Never noticed this but cool.

Considering the size of the game and the complexity, the bugs are somewhat forgiveable, that said, simple fixes like armour perks should really have been fixed in beta testing, since you can get 100 smithing very quickly if you’re obsessed with it, contrary to letting it build naturally over time, but oh well. :frowning:

Who the hell wants Daedric armour at level 5, honestly you want the game to be hard, don’t you, unless you are 12, some people…

It’s not a cheat to uber up some skills early, an idiot could figure it out, but it’s damn well lame, probably the same idiots who play the game on novice when diddums dies of a broken finger nail. I kinda clicked on a “cheat” thing related to facts about armour I was looking for, read it and then threw up, 2023892789 armour 28738 damage, really get a life, the game simply isn’t that hard. Exploiters are idiots. Ok they’ve worked out how to walk through the game in 266 seconds flat, but what’s the point, you only enjoy doing something that’s damned tough. For example random encounter earlier, an ice mage and fire mage fighting, I ran up to see what the skinny was, next thing I knew I was getting pwned by both of the gits, died quickly, even with some heal potions and some nifty footwork. I like that keeps me on my toes. Discretion is the better part of valour.

Yeah I think if you’re even half able to play these sorts of games, ie you’ve played many or at least a few RPGs you have to push the envelope. That said I never went from Expert to master until level 45, it was hard enough before then. Saying that, I find MMORPGs way more challenging but then it’s many people against an AI, and it’s impressive when they make it incredibly challenging at end game, so much so that even those who have done something backwards struggle. I guess when you grow up in game playing, you relish any challenge, and Skyrim as you say, with it suddenly getting harder level by level, fulfils that challenge, assuming you aren’t exploiting like a girl of 5.

Yeah the same kinds of people that say " The games too easy Blah Blah Blah, you can do this and that makes the game soo easy".

Then someone (sometimes me) will say “then don’t do it, don’t exploit the game and it’ll be more challenging”.

Then they’ll say "  No I shouldn’t have to they should “Fix it” so I can have legendary super enchanted armor at level 1,000 one novice and still have the game be challenging, and I’m sick of people telling me to just not exploit it, the game is broken whaaa! :angry-banghead: "

Idiots.

Amen Sensei.

Incidentally this great game is not going to last forever, since you appear to be clued up on games: any recommendations, not a chore I’ll play pretty much anything as long as it aint sport simulations, played one you played them all. FIFA 2012, spare me.

I don’t dabble in sports games any way.

My own personal Recommendations

Mass Effect 3, if you haven’t played the first two I recommend you do so.

Bioshock Infinite

XCom enemy unknown

Assassins Creed 3

It all depend on what type of games you like an what you play on(console/PC).

Last game I got before this one was Deus Ex Machina: Human Revolution, wont last you as long as Skyrim but it will suck a big hole in your free time likewise. The hard level is bloody hard, you have to sneak through 2 bases without being detected and then kill a boss who’s monstrously tough at the end and you can’t save at all. Still like Skyrim you get perks, which are all very useful so it also has an xp system, its kind of a first person shooter/adventure game/RPG with a minigame for lock picking, I particularly liked the ability to fall as far as you want without dying, there’s all sorts like seeing through walls, and being immune from electric shocks, perks to increase strength so you can punch through certain walls, and carry more etc. And Adam Jensen is so cool he’s sub 0, which is good because the AI is particularly cunning for the most part.

Another game coming out that looks good is Rainbow 6: Patriots, pretty much a what if scenario for the U.S.

I’m seriously considering Assassins Creed, but as it’s a trilogy I suspect it will all come out on one “disc” at some point.

Technically a saga seeing as how Assassins Creed 2 has 3 parts, AC2, AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations.

Ah right, thanks for the info. I’ve been eyeing the Creed games for some time, I’ll have to do some research.

Can you guys go back to more Skyrim stuff, please?

I’ve never played the game, have no intention to do so, but I’ve enjoyed this thread, for some reason.

 I used to (in a way I still do) research games i never got to play, yet it was interesting just learning the lore an such.

I don’t know where should the discussion lead without me just mindlessly droning on, I guess I could talk about the mods I’m trying out or somethin.

I finally have the full suit of Daedric armour, Armour is 920, smithing is nearly 99 now so the only way to get that up is probably to get better smithing magic items.

I felt bullet proof earlier which brings me on to my day, basically reported in to the Night Mother who gave me another helpless victim to brutally murder. When I left I had to fight an ancient dragon near Dawnstar; “right now to test the Armour I thought” running gallantly into battle, placing my faith in the Dragon rend shout and my heals and legendary Dragonbane sword. He breathed on me and I died straight away. Lol. Ahhhhhhhhhh I’m on fire!!! Not a bad way to go I suppose, you can at least be sure people in Dawnstar will be talking about the Dragon born going flying as a dragon breathed a furnace at his lifeless body. Anyway I decided to approach the Night mother from the other entrance to avoid the dragon as dragons in towns are a colossal pain sometimes. Incidentally one of the masks that gives a defence bonus to frost, fire and lightning is actually Daedric and can be improved with ebony to the same level as the ordinary helmet, and since its Daedric it’s a matched set. Which is nice, pity it doesn’t say what the defence bonus actually is, odd that.

Still I then went with Vilkas to kill another dragon (this one was a blood dragon fortunately, they are not the easiest but they are much, much easier than ancients). Most Dragon lairs have Shout power words somewhere close, so after the dragon was sliced and reaped I went to look for it. Found it and it was bloody haunted by some undead dragon priest. Now I don’t mind fighting the guys as they usually yield nice Daedric stuff. But this guy floated backwards faster than I can run and continuously shot fireballs at my horse, cause I couldn’t get near the bugger. Shadow was magnificent though, didn’t do much damage but boy that Nazgul style horse can take some punishment. Eventually I trapped him against a cliff and jumped and slashed him until he croaked, git had at least 500 health I reckon. Daedric type mask, although light armour, Improves 3 skills, not bad but I’ll not wear it in battle most likely, save it for making potions and stuff.

I now have 20 dragon shouts, few of which I actually use but meh, I really want the last word of the shout for flame breath but I never seem to find it so I usually go with the three word frost breath instead which slows enemies down, unless facing dwarven robots. Anyhoo killed a gaint for the bounty, planning on picking up another power word later, and then ending the war against the Empire. Ho hum that’s life I guess. I Don’t particularly like what will be the new high king and would gladly assassinate him. I actually tried once but he’s unkillable, I beat him down to 0 hps 5 times and then gave up, all the guards could be killed but not him and his Steward. Bahh…

Bounty God alone knows, probably more than 30k. Mwahahahaha being evil is great fun.

Later dudes.

Cool I finally discovered the Smithing potion, which increases my smith skill by 60 percent, armour is now nearly 1200 and my axe does around 160 atm, and sucks out your soul mwahahahaha. I’m looking to get some more grand souls atm, so although my Daedric weapon of the Vampire sucks out 15 health and gives it to you and is thus slightly more damaging, I’m using the axe.

I’m looking to die in this suit so my next 3 perks will be enchantment +20%, so that I can enchant these items. Probably +x one handed skill on boots and gloves, + health on armour. If I do chose to remove the helmet for a plain Daedric one I will probably put some sort of resistance to shock, fire or some such on it. Who knows maybe I’ll get the double perk thing, one step away, Enchantment 74…

Earlier I got a really nice Daedric mask from a place where I went to find a shout word. I’m 52nd atm, I reckon I might stop playing around 60 or so. Oh and now The Imperials have been kicked out of Skyrims holds.

One thing I really like about the game is the dungeon areas which are all very different, a lot of work went into keeping them fresh, and the “Dwarven” dungeons are quite fun, with the robots and the steam driven death traps (incidentally the Dwarves are actually Elves apparently, stunty one’s I presume: they enslaved the Snow Elves, which eventually rebelled and became the Falmer, a blind and evil race, that you kind of feel sorry for given their history of persecution). I would of preferred more monsters in the game but meh, it’s a minor gripe. The bestiary is hardly understocked.

Ogmund’s house, how do I rob the place, the map shows extra areas but there’s no access to them… Hmmm… Curious… I figure he owes me his chalice for saving him from a Falmer dungeon; I can always justify my actions no matter how illegal or immoral.

Edit: I love the fact that you can die in even the most benign situations on master, especially if your mixing up your skill sets; Light armour for me can often be a death sentence so I need a different approach as I basically have no perks. And even if you aren’t mixing the skill sets up then you need so much more than just the ability to kill quickly. For example I hit a final area today, now usually one Druagar Lord can be a challenge, I had 3 and one of them scourges that cast magic, magic I use is basically wasted atm even at high level, it will kill, but it’s kinda disappointingly meh, not sure why my magic is gash but I guess it’s because I don’t specialise in it, even though I have all the perks, no idea, but then you pays your money you takes your chance. Anyway very hard to kill all four, you had to keep moving so that they wouldn’t hit you, and when two struck make sure you had your shield up, 3 and you were dead almost instantly. I had to use far more healing/stamina/magicka potions than I was comfortable with and far more restoration spells, which are at least not crap at expert. But I did it first time, hook or by crook it was a nightmare, I’m about 70/30% on hard situations usually, so I have at least some skill I like to think.

I kinda like the way the game just makes it so hard so quickly at master level. Just when you think you’ve got it all down, they throw a curve ball, the algorithms for levelling and skilling up are superb. Unless of course you’re an exploit merchant who basically only gets a thrill if everything is made too easy, and you don’t even wait until you get bored to use cheats, you use them from the start because nothing says I am finding it too hard diddums like wasting your time being beatable, because you can’t play the game very well and you are a girl.

This game is my game of the year. Even better than the MMORPG LotR expansion and Deus Ex. I seldom find a game that’s once in a decade but I think this is it. Don’t buy it though, sincerely, if you have a life you might lose it!

An addendum Dragon armour is heavy, but you can find light versions of dragon scale armour. Interesting I guess, you can have both a suit of heavy and light armour that beats everything else in the game. I used a skill perk to get the heavy, and then went back and used it for enchantment after the fact. Well I have Daedric with a few perks and a half now, I guess the dragon stuff can wait. 1300ish armour with a shield, +51 health bonus, +66% weapon damage and +51 magicka on the helm. Quite sweet. I haven’t murdered anyone today, in fact I rescued a few people. Is that wrong?

Some Falmer 1 hit killed me with an arrow today, I was wearing light armour but still, enemies critically hitting me, now that’s fair, but it aint cricket.

Well I have bought the Assassins creed first 3 games (cost me £15, bargain), so when this game begins to wear thin I can continue with the murder. Do love this game though, 2 months of playing probably at least 200 hours, for the price it is cheap.

Incidentally I don’t work for these guys, but if push comes to shove I will go on an advert and say this game is cool, for the right amount of money obviously.

You play Skyrim on P.C. Calrid?
