I do not enjoy gypsy music. Flamenco is a type of gypsy music, right? But this is good.
There are a lot of gypsy elements in Steve Stevens – the Billy Idol guitarist, also the Top Gun theme guitarist – but this one, and maybe several others, are an exception.
I am not a fan of this “new flamenco” thing either. What is that, a fancy title for virtuoso flamenco? I don’t like Paco de Lucia, he’s a chore.
But this is good. Though not completely. Nothing modern is completely good. There are always things to change. You always have to listen, not to the actual performance, but to an imaginary performance that corrects all of the mistakes.
For one, that high pitched melody must be toned down. Too high. Metronomic rhythm must be eliminated in favor of variation. Variable not fixed tempo. That’s a given that applies to pretty much every modern piecs. Beat must be disappear entirely before that explosive moment and the explosive moment must be less explosive and there are many other things, too many to list here, so let’s just throw the link:
