I was hastily trying to pick 2 dvd’s from a redbox and ended up getting silver linings playbook because I thought it would be funny because it had the guy from the hangover in it. Then I went back to my friend’s place and watched it and was like…man…this is a serious movie about some fucked up shit. 2 crazy depressed people who hate the world ending up winning a dance contest together or something.
No doubt. Not my usual shit. I prefer mindless, low brow comedy that doesn’t ask much of the viewer. Think step brothers or talladega nights. But a great movie nonetheless.
I have to admit, I’m a fan of Will Ferrell’s particular brand of ridiculous comedy, mostly because he commits so hard that even his over-acting comes across as quite genuine in a way that other famous over-actors (think Jim Carrey) fail to capture. Its all very charming in a ridiculous way. Interestingly enough, he’s also quite good in more serious roles. Stranger Than Fiction and Everything Must Go come to mind, if you haven’t seen them I’d recommend them both.
