I dont not believe religion as a whole has been good to mankind. Religion fights against science and reasoning, it destroys critical thinking and allows sheep mentality to prevail. If everyone was more logical and thought about things instead of letting beliefs and morality handed down on them, the wolrd would be a much better place. There are many other valid reasons, posted all over the board which i dont know if i want to repeat.
actually i remember now i wrote a really long - essay type post on this somewhere, i think it is in the religion section
Hum, but hasn’t secularism also caused violence and discrimination (i.e. communist USSR, and China)?
How about, it is the human nature of many to fight for economic gain, prestige, etc.?

I said this in my little essay from a while back but ill retiterate a small portion. Religion can be used as a tool to further a systems/persons own agenda do we not agree? So has secular thought and economic gain. These are all reasons and tools why people fight. But if you take away one reason, and another and another. THe more reasons and tools you take away, the less destruction you have. I am all up for taking away secular and reliigous reasons. You can take away religion from the government but not secularism, that is why we have separation of church and state where church plays no part in our government (theoretically, hopefully). If osama bin laden had no religion to brainwash his followers to suicide then we would have no 9/11. Do you really think he could get the same affect making them fight for economic gain and prestige if they are not going to gain anything from that sacrifice. And you can not reasonably tell me if there was 9/11 and no religion there would have been some other secular/motivation gain that would have made 9/11 still occur.
He used a cheat code. When you’re on the login screen, hit the keys [up] [up] [down] [down] [left] [right] [left] [right] B, A, [Space] [Return], and you can enter whatever size avatar you want. You also get 30 lives, which comes in handy at the Rant House.
Is it really just about economic gain, or is it survival?? I do believe after an oil war, or during an oil war, a water war will occur. I hope I am wrong.
In the West, perhaps, but our laws are based on the 10 commandments, the the Magna Carta (The Great Charter). We believe in the right of the individual, which stems from the covenant, the deal God mad with people. In Asia, the community is more important, stemming, I believe from Confusianism.
The problem is that humans have a number of religious nut cases, throughout the world. You know, my religion or die philosophy, which many faith actually prescribe.
Wasn’t the American Revolution fought for economic gain and recognition? Our founders were the richest men in the colonies and many were Deist, as am I. If mistaken, please correct, I am a seeker
Actually, yes. This was both a political and religious move. First, an insult to Islam “must be avenged.” Second, we must rid ourselve of the corrupt, tainted (US corruption) Saudi government, and remove the infidels, (politically) the Palestinians must have a homeland. (The Arabs were humiliated in the many wars).
Why in the hell to the Arabs need another state, isn’t Israel small enough as it is.
Yes, the Jews and Christians ridiculed him. Remember, he worships a meteorite along with Allah, and both Satan and Gabriel spoke to him. There is much more, but I am waiting for a refute from an Islamic blogger regarding my claims regarding Islam.
Funny, he has not responded. He was probably told that I am SATAN
I don’t know much about islam but you’re reasoning is faulty to say thee least. if i looked hard enough I would probably find something among the many ridiculous things written in “Holy Books” and accuse people of other religions of racism, why is Islam any different to you? Is it because you HATE Muslims? From what I’ve read from you so far it seems that YOU ARE the racist and ignorant one, not them!
Right, there are many ridiculous ideas in most religions. DID, has probably perused some the the Islamophobic sites that are currently populating the web.
Many half educated Islamic leaders advocate violence because the hadiths and/or Qu’ran claims this is virtuous. Yes, much in other holy books say much of the same, but most other religious leaders do not advocate murder, whereas fatwas calling for murder are frequently issued in Islam, Rushdie, a Black Muslim woman who criticized Islam, if an Arab sells land to a Jew, there many reports of these fatwas.
Many are concerned regarding many Islamic issues. For example, how many individuals of other faiths are strapping bombs to themselves, (this includes children) hoping to murder as many individuals as possible. It think it is Shalaha (spelling) or something like that. How about murder will gain paradise with 72 virgins and wine. How many of other faiths fly planes into buildings to murder as many civilians as possible. We were sucker punched again. How many faiths brainwash its children “Kill a Jew, go to Heaven.”
Also, there are Islamic groups in the West that want to legalize Sharia Law in our secular society, as Allah’s law supercedes human law, or as they say man’s law. This Law I find frightening.
Well, quite a few practioners of the Shinto religion seemed rather willing to die in a fiery explosion for their “God”. While the Japanese of 1941 and Muslims of the modern day Middle East are miles apart as far as religous beliefs go, both share a paternalistic culture in which women have little say, and both saw the United States as an interloper set on retaining power at their expense (“their” being the Japanese and Muslims).
These, of course, are all just handy generalizations I use not to explain the world, merely to exercise my predjudice.
Good analogy, but, Japan was pacified after WWII. The Japanese committed many atrocities on civilians and POWs too. There is a difference in that they wore uniforms and this was open warfare.
Currently, it is difficult to identify the enemy. Try perusing CAIR (Coucil for American Islamic Relations) and Anti-Cair regarding some of the problems. I have contacted both and submitted anti-CAIR’s claims to CAIR. CAIR flat out denies the claims, but anti-CAIR has provided at least two valid sources for each claim.
Hum, there was also that Japanese fanatic who had all those communters gassed on the subway. The US has had the Tim McVeys, Jim Jones and the Koolaid brigade, Waco Texas nut jobs. These atrocities all stemmed from religions.
Currently, To Islam: Islamic religious fanatics bombed a Madrid train station, behead people (actually, their governments often conduct public beheadings and maimings for legal infractions), call for Shalal (spelling) suicide murders, (This is a major problem with many Palestinian parents brainwashing their children to blow themselves to bits and take as many Jews a possible with them) The list is huge. Try perusing MEMRI, DEBKA File, and several other sources.
Many Muslims are not violent, I have had and have them in class. They love the freedoms of the West, but are uncomfortable with our sexuality.
It is the half educated or self-educated Islamic religious leaders that appear to be inciting the blood libels, slanders and violence against us. Their rhetoric exceeds Hitler’s. These are very dangerous men.
