2 Companion Poems To "Carnival"

“Things are in the saddle and ride mankind.”–Emerson to Channing.

Things
If things made
Anybody
Less lonely
Longer,
There would be
Nothing
But I and It.

Kicked Out
“Here is a thing, glorious thing,
Fit for a king, A glamorous, gaudy, grand thing for a fling,”
Seventeen salesmen, cocky and proud,
Chanted aloud,
"Joy is a Thing!
Stand out from the crowd!?

I was kicked out of a classy cult carnival,
Giddy old newfangled
Loveless fast carnival.
Small wonder I fled
After asking for bread
From the horror and dread
Of stones.

Brilliant! Great imagery.

Thanks, PM.
