I see a lot of movies so I thought I’d share my log with anyone that’s interested. You can tell from comparing the movies I’ve rated with what you’ve seen whether our tastes are similar or not. In the last four or five years, I’ve only seen one movie that I rated a 10, and that was Black Snake Moan. Almost no has seen it I think because the marketing, particularly the poster, mislead people. The music is also fantastic. I also rated V for Vendetta a 9 and a half.
Anyway, here’s the list. Post some/all of your own that you’ve seen this year, and you can edit/update them if you like.

The Hottie and the Nottie (Rating based on the poster. Need I see more.)
Los Cronocrimenes (Timecrimes) I’ll give an 8, for a somewhat quirky time-travel film
Rec is a 9! Fuck the Hollywood remake, which is called Quarantine
This film was just dull and cliche, and Keanu Reeves is quite possibly the worst actor I have ever seen. I’ve only given it a 2 for the fact that it wasn’t any longer.
Not sure if this should be here or in the Philosophy forum.
Three Oscar worthy performances. (Streep’s amazing; from Fortune 500 arrogant CEO in The Devil Wears Prada to a hyper-strict schoolmarm/principal/nun.) And the story is right on the spot both politically and philosophically–although I had my doubts right up until the end. 9/10 (2 9’s in 2 weeks, but only my third of the year).
Seen any of the other 3 yet? I know most people won’t consider Rambo of the same caliber, but for quality and message, I do. Doubt is a movie that really makes you think, more than just about the Catholic church doubting it’s priests, but about the emotion of doubt itself. How deeply can we get away with suppressing it, and is it any easier if we bring it up to our level of consciousness and out in the open?
Saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It’s slow paced and long (almost 3 hours), but I never came close to being bored. The acting by all was excellent to outstanding (Pitt, Blanchett and the woman who plays his adoptive mother), and the unexpected points of humor kept it from being a depressing movie and even made it lively through most of it. But the original premise didn’t keep it from being just another love story, and it kept reminding me of The Notebook. All in all though, it’s well worth seeing. 8/10
Valkayrie is a very well made, very suspenseful movie, but I kept asking myself why they made it. There are lots of other vehicles for courage, we all know that Hitler and the Nazis were evil (they’re about the only fair game left), and most everybody knows how it turns out, although I didn’t know the extent of Operation Valkyrie in that it planned to replace the Nazi regime. It is apparently an accurate portrayal of events. 7/10
