If I were to take a more limited understanding of what was being that (that is, take what was said at face-value and ignore the obvious context of it), I agree.

Perspective undeniably plays a vital role in shaping our understanding of reality, but it is not reality. The reference he made to the Book of Numbers reminds me of the Zen saying, “Don’t mistake a finger pointing at the moon for the moon.”

Yep, that about sums it up. You can’t completely take the Christianity out of what he’s saying, not should a person, but there’s still something there to take away from it for everyone, I should think.
I think this kind of realization is the beginnings of an antidote for much of what goes on in ‘spirituality’ these days. People who take the ‘it all depends on how you look at it’ angle need to give serious thought how we can still deal with incredibly stupid things.

EDIT: I do think I overstated the ‘controversial brilliance’ thing, though. :stuck_out_tongue:
