A brief Haiku collection I've been writing.

The fish are biting,
In Death they do not bite me,
My sleep eternal.

Fire lies burning,
Despite eternal struggles,
It burns forever.

Golden Autumn comes,
Leaves swirling through breezy air,
It is breath taking.

Beautiful lily,
Running freely through my mind,
Oh how I miss you

That’s all for now…

Nice.

Haiku is a fascinating form that i love to dabble in myself. I especially like, when writing haiku, how you are forced to use the fewest words necessary to say so much. The thing about writing haiku that most non-Japanese don’t realize is that the relationship between images relayed in a haiku are not necessarily metaphorical. It’s not that something is like something else or can be explained in terms of something else but that there is a connection --usually metaphysical or spiritual-- between images or events relayed in a haiku; however, they can be metaphorical but don’t have to be.

After reading this haiku Dakotadean posted, I had an epiphanous brainstorm in that I thought it would be cool to start another subforum where we post “chain” haiku where any number of who are inclined toward haiku can collaborate on in this paradoxically unlimiting form.
