A Definition of Evil

DEFINITION OF EVIL:

We all have evil potentially within us but most of us have had more or less all possibility of us acting in an evil way bred out of us. We all have perculiar thoughts now and again due to the pressures that life puts us under but part of reaching clearer states of consciousness is accepting these pressures, processing them and assimilating them into a view of what the world could be. We are in a constant state of self creation. Now with the few something has gone wrong with this ‘natural’ process and they have become struck in a degraded forms of behaviour. Now many may not act on their perverted (yes I feel this term is appropriate) impulses but some do. I feel the description of evil is not out of place if the action taken was defiling of innocence or acts of profound hurt toward others in the numerous ways this can be achieved. However, it is possible to be in situations where, perhaps, murder or injury of others is unavoidable. This might be self defense or it might even be a situation where one is under such great pressure (domestic violence for example or some extreme form of black mail perhaps) that the ‘evil’ act is almost unavoidable. I would suggest that every normal person might find themselves in such a situation and cannot wholly subtract themselves from the hypothetical formula.

If one takes a more religious and less rational definition of evil it is possible to view it as a presence in the world that is either winning or losing a battle with good. A secular version and one I would subscribe to would be that civilisation is more than simply a vast structure that has come into being through evolution or trial and error but rather is, in the final reckoning, a delicate relationship between the individual, society and nature. One must train and take hold of one’s rationality and emotions force into being a moral world that is dynamic and ever changing (like the world out there).
