Beware The Ideas Of March ( based on a true story )
Miss Kent was one of the rarest of mortals. Maia Kent simply lived every day of her life in utter fascination. Even when she was dying, she didn’t fear that she was ending, she merely thought that she was again beginning. Some people said that she was an angel and that when she died she didn’t lose her wings she just started flying. She would have prefered that description. When she was little her bother Jonas told her that he was going to work with atoms some day, that he was going to split and mix and transform them so that he could help people. Maia wanted to know why atoms didn’t help Hiroshima. Jonas said that the people didn’t understand one another, and that they seldom did. He said it was better to try to understand the earth and the heavens, and that the problems we were trying to solve were not really between us but between us and the universe. He told her that sometimes fighting was the only way people could be closer and further from one another at the same time. Jonas did in fact become a physicist, but Maia became one in a different way. Maia probed the secrets of the world through her art, and that was her way of helping people. It wasn’t really true that art was her religion, rather, it was her bread, it was what enabled her to exist for and pray to God. She grew into a quiet but enigmatic woman who said all to and about the world through her work. All the trophies and the scholarships she won meant nothing to her, they only refelcted her love for her work…
The novel may sound corny at the start but that’s necessary because it gets so disturbing, brutal and plain strange…it’s a novel that contrasts most of its characters with one another so as to give more insight into their true natures and problems. The novel aims to make people look at the world in a new way, to make you forget your problems and dream a little. Most of all its about hope, about finding yourself again after being confronted with evil.
