I’m young, and overly lacking in knowledge, with regard to a certain few choice topics. one of which is aesthetics. could somebody please explain to me, what it is? maybe some personal views? and then who I should be reading to get to grips with the key philisophical contributers.
thank you…

"Aesthetics (or esthetics) (from the Greek word αισθητική) is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty. "

i didn’t have a problem, i just missed the move… sorry.
i couldn’t bring anything to the discussion, because like i said, i don’t know anything about aesthetics, i was just trying to learn. to enquire, to expand my knowledge.
from what i read from the link you posted it explained what an aesthetic is, and i understand that. but ok aesthetics discusses the nature of beauty, what are the different views, or natures…
Try Arthur C. Danto. He is a professor of philosophy at Columbia U.
some of his works:
-
Encounters and Reflections: Art in the Historical Present and The Madonna of the Future: Essays in a Pluralistic Art World
-
After the End of Art
-
The Abuse of Beauty: Aesthetics and the Concept of Art
-
The Transfiguration of the Common Place
I haven’t read any of the above books. Though I have read his works on analytics and metaphysics. I like the way he writes.
