Don’t get me wrong. You don’t just get wood and start a thesis.
Although as kids we have fun with others and enjoy the activity of the moment, as adults we develop long-term goals for the good of the whole, not because of real benevolence but benevolence (or radicalness) as a result of loneliness. Only when we accept the fact of loneliness by itself, or futilities, we can possibly become martyrs, or just plain nuts.
“I want the right attention. I should have money, power. I should be recognized for things. I should display values, confidence, stamina, intellect.”
Necessity mother of invention, our successes are built upon the absence of our ultimate desires. If you just don’t get it, you die alone.
You’ve really got something here. Reminds me of of how societies might use sexual repression as a way of boosting the economy. Sexual repression or lack of a girlfriend is ( I think ) the reason a few of my friends joined the military…Just a strong desire to prove themselves and become more desirable to others.
