Amor Eterno

Amor Eterno (Eternal Love) by Vicente Fernandez

Tu eres la tristeza de mis ojos
You are the sadness in my eyes

que lloran en silencio por tu amor
That cry in silence for your love

me miro en el espejo y veo a mi rostro
I look in the mirror and see my face

And time shows the suffering since your goodbye

Obligo a que te olvide el pensamiento
I beg that my thoughts will forget you

Pues siempre estoy pensando en el ayer
Because I am always thinking of yesterday

Prefiero estar dormido que despierto
I prefer being asleep over being awake

Because of the pain of your absence

Como quisiera … que tu vivieras
Oh how I want for you to live

That your eyes would never have closed, so we could see each other

Amor eterno
Eternal love

Inolvidable
Unforgettable

Tarde o temprano estare contigo para seguir amandonos
Sooner or later I shall be with you so our love will continue

Yo he sufrido tanto por tu ausencia
I have suffered much because of your absence

From that day on I know not joy

y aunque tengo tranquila mi conciencia
And although my conscience is clear

I know I could have done more for you

Oscura soledad estoy viviendo
I am living a dark loneliness

la misma soledad de tu sepulcro
A similar fate to your sepulcher

You are the love of which I have

el mas triste recuerdo de Acapulco
The saddest memory of Acapulco

Dedicated to the memory of Michelle’s mother…

Thanks, thirst, for sharing this poem by Vicente Fernandez and especially bilingually too. Some of my most favorite poets, past and present, are of Mexican and other Latin American extraction (including Hispanic American); such as: Octavio Paz; Pablo Neruda; Martin Espada; Fernando Garcia Lorca, et. al. But, right now, the poet I am having a major obsession with is the early 20th Century Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. I love reading international poets and especially bilingual books to see how the poems appeared on the page in their original language.
