I’ve been browsing around a bit and decided to register. I am making an introductory post because I’d like to get a feel for what this place is like, and figure out if I would like to stick around.
I got the memo in your forum rules that you’re not fond of pointless posts, but I hope you’ll forgive me an introductory post on a forum named “mundane babble”.
I looked around at a couple philosophy discussion forums on the net, but I choose this one because I like the positive sound of “I Love Philosophy” and because I’m pretty familiar with and fond of the phpBB format. Also, the size (smallish) of the community is appealing.
Philosophy is an interest of mine, but by no means an area of expertice. 
I’m open to having my mind changed, or my opinions challenged, but I’m not really a pushover either. I’ve done some reading in the area, but it’s no-where near exhaustive. But I’m not asking for a book list … yet.
At the moment, I’m looking for intellectual community more than I’m looking for a good fight, or anyone to tell me what to think. So I’m interested in who you all are and what you think about things.
Oh, and I tend to be long-winded. (Sorry. Feel free to tell me to shut up at any time.)
