an uncanny ability

so it seems to me like i have an uncanny ability

occasionally i will walk into someone’s home for the first time, and instantly know “there is a piano in this house” … it has not yet been wrong, and i’ll guess i’ve done this ~20 times in the last 5 yearsish… maybe its coincidence or luck

know this happens when a piano is NOT immediately in sight upon entry (feeling also occurs if it is in sight)

and its quite possibly the case that i’ve walked into someones home and never been aware of his/her piano

perhaps its the smell

perhaps everyone who owns a piano has something in common in terms of home decoration which becomes more noticeable when entering a home

i can’t articulate why i instantly get this “this house has a piano” vibe upon entry

perhaps its the sound of a silent piano

perhaps its just some reasonable amount of wealth (middle class) coupled with cleanliness

i spend quite a bit of time at keyboards/pianos

perhaps someone can explain it better than I can?

if anyone can shed some light on this phenomenon, it would be nice

anyone else experience similar ‘vibes’ that are uncanny and correct usually, but not fully understood?

i know when a TV is on in my house, even if it isn’t making any noise and I am in a different room and can’t see any light coming from it.

'course, just like you, i haven’t actually fully tested if that ability works in all cases, i’ve just generally been correct when i think it is on. we could both be full of shit. if we’re not, however, it’s probably due to some sound that’s barely recognizable by our brain, but that we can’t consciously hear. something like that.

It could be that really high pitched whine that makes me go crazy if the TV has no sounds/pictures to distract me.

yeah. i’m thinking that, like this whine, the piano that’s not being played has some consciously imperceptible hum caused by the constant minor vibrations in the house.

Nice.

Well it’s not exactly scientific, I mean it smacks of confirmation bias because there could quite easily of been pianos you failed to notice, being musical yourself also predisposes friends and acquaintances to having like interests. However that said I think you should be burned as a witch to be on the safe side.

i can hear tvs on in the background too, but i understand that one… sound

this.

Eh. He knows the people whose houses he enters. He probably just knows they have one but forgets learning and is surprised that he knew.

perhaps that’s the case

Deja vu can work that way. And it’s a worldwide phenomenon, people feeling like they know things they’re learning, like they “saw it before”!

Hilarious.

indeed - Caldrid’s humour knows no bounds
