Ecc has a point Lev. And you might be misunderstanding the medium with the message regarding the symbols and the behaviors of a sword wielding twenty-some year old male. It is that strong, aggressive, excitable drive of the young male that uses as a medium the symbols, manners and behaviors available in his culture, that is to be considered. Not that a dude has swords, but that he is participating in a culture in which these symbols are operating and makes use of them in shaping his identity.

Every bit of that aggressive energy, anxiety, indecision, frustration, dissatisfaction, … all of this is a sign and precursor to that individuality that exceptional males develop when the standards they have are not met by the society they are in. So they either break and become honda driving liberals, or they try to reinstate a sense and ideal of masculinity, forcefulness, patriarchy, authority… and they begin an investigation into philosophy to find something about that… learn it… commit to it, and spread it memetically.
So what he is standing for, what he is expressing, the ‘message’, is in my opinion a noble ideal. But the mediums are arbitrary; the symbol of the sword is just a signifier of that ethos. It coulda been anything. He could be standing there with a taco and we could somehow work out a narrative that describes tacos as symbolically masculine.
