I’ve read this several times and truly I don’t know what to make of it. But I keep coming back to it. It’s disturbing. But I keep reading it. I think that’s good in a poem. You’ve done something here, I’m just not sure what. Do I like it? I don’t know. I thought it was worthy of comment, though, for whatever that’s worth.

Aha! I just Googled the date. April 23, 1851. Annie Darwin, daughter of Charles Darwin, died.

Interesting.

I knew there was something very compelling about this poem.

Lol, but yes, you got it right! It was Darwin’s daughter who died at the age of 10 and Darwin was distraught and heart broken. They say he took out rage on whatever god he felt may be left. Some say it was judgement.
