I bet all I had, you see,
Because my hand was really that good.
Here were Tom and I,
Playing cards in the hospital waiting room
As if the universe is made of luck,
When Tom said,
“You know how these games are.
The rules changed before you played your hand!”
May I have permission to use your “As if the universe is made of luck” line for a possible book title - then again you may wanna use it yourself should you decide to publish a book. Whomever uses it has a winner for a book title. If you allow me to use it, I will make sure to include you in the acknowledgements page.
–great poem by the way - not just for that line that so struck me,
N.
ps: I also really dig the last two lines. Great closing lines are hard to come by sometimes, and this one’s is/are a winner.
lhw,
Feel free to use my lines in any way you see fit. Thanks for understanding the poem. Not too many try to do that. IMHO, a poem should evoke understanding, not define it. It should entice one too seek what is real within themselves. It is a clarion of mutual recognitions. P.S., my work in progress is on an evolution of epistemological paradigms–big words for evolving human takes on reality. Good luck and best wishes with your chez d’ouvre.
Thanks for your permission to use the line in question for a possible book title. I will as promised acknowledge your contribution in the acknowledgement page of said book should I ultimately decide to go with this line as the title of a future book. I’ve got so many candidate book titles I’ve been juggling for varying intervals of time over the span of time I’ve been writing. I’ve only just begun the laborious task of going thru the mountain of poetry I’ve written over the past decade and a half+ to narrow down a reasonably workable manuscript for my first solo book of poetry, let alone settle on a title for it. On top of that I keep writing, which is nice, but it throws a monkey wrench into the works b/c then I have more material to work with and consider whether to include it in the first book or save it for a future book, assuming a future boook is feasable.
