It occurred to me that, perhaps, this modern abhorrence, even hatred for religion/spirituality/numinosity is confluent with the gynocentric ethos of modernity.
This modern predilection for the flesh, the physical, the material ( the physical/material representing woman - from a sexual/erotic framework ); man sees woman’s beauty in her physicality/materiality, whereas woman sees the beauty of man in his spirit/personality/abstractness. We see this predilection in the deification of science, which is the study of nature ( nature being symbolic of woman ) and the demonization of spirituality ( spirit being symbolic of man ). This need to desecrate the patriarchy, traditionalism, religion, masculinity, the father, the son, the male - it’s running through the veins of this age.
The “toughness” of a male has been bastardized into this senseless juicehead; meanwhile, the male has also become emasculated and oversensitive with homosexuality and emo culture.
The way I see it, both sexes are perverted. The female nowdays is also a betrayal of itself; from tom-boys to sluts and abortion.
I completely agree; females are also suffering from this, not just males. But still, males are getting royally fu–ed up the ass, literally and figuratively.
The reification of traditionalism and naturalistic ideals is crucial.
Anti-numinosity (nice way of putting it) is deeply connected to the post-modern mindset and philosophy that now governs the western world with near impunity. This has consequences across the board, it would be interesting to pick apart these as well as detail more extensively the various causes and historical moments that have led to this post-modern phenomenon. But a large part of it is simply the sheer necessity involved-- this is truly deep tectonic work being done. Respect that titanic and universal process of deep unfolding, even if we do not respect the outcomes at this present stage of it.
