Im choosing to do a philosophical research paper for my senior project, any ideas

Yeah - why don’t you try to ascertain what the actual philosophical influence Wittgenstein had on the Logical Positivists was. I don’t mean the mancrush they had on him - I have always wondered what would have been different if Wittgy had never existed. I have yet to find anything, myself.

lol, hmm now that you mention influnce it makes me think about Aristotle, but i want to do something that is my own orginal work
How do you do a research paper that is about your own work? I thought you had to do research. I never had to do a research paper in philosophy. In fact, I was famous for never using footnotes. Because it was always my own work.
Well, you know - infamous among my professors.
i want to do research on a certain topic in philosophy then write my own philosophy about it
That may take a considerable amount of time.
Today, I thought I had some decent thoughts about intention written down but when I read them, they weren’t that good. I didn’t even post them. In fact, many of my ideas seem to be not that good, even incompatible. Emergent intelligence and free will, for example. I’m still thinking about that.
What is the assignment? Is it that broad?
I know but after do the research on what ever it is i can organise the my thoughts into something that makes sence
Don’t you have it backwards? Don’t you want organise your thoughts first, and then research it?
The first paper I ever wrote in school (in philosophy) was about time. How it doesn’t exist. there is some very goofy stuff written about time. recently, in fact. Fun stuff.
Get ahold of a copy of Philosophy 1 (or 2). It’s an outline of what British Uni students need to know. It covers everything topically, and contains many references to writers - again, by topic. Just pick one out that you like. The authors you wish to read are given to you, IIRC.

yeah, but i’ll get ahold of that info, i have until march or something to hand it in, the only problem i may have is keeping it between 8 and 10 pages long

philosophy itself is too broad
I’d recommend focusing specifically on one idea of philosophy… how do you know that you know? or something like that…

yes, metaphysics is one of my favorite branches.
Then the world id your oyster. I heard a good one a few years back - on another board. “Direction” exists. If you are any good at metaphysics, you should be able to take any noun that is not obviously “fictitional” in everyday usage and claim that it “exists”.
As in the say love, time, or measurement.
yeah - claim that love exists. You just have to make it to capital “L” love, and you’re golden. Metaphysics is fun.
