Edit: I changed the title from, “My favourite game” to “Art or not Art” because “Art or not Art” is the game to which I was referring. I realized that could be easily misinterpreted and I most certainly didn’t want that.
I don’t have a moral problem with it, if that’s what you’re asking. As for it being art, of course it is - at least as far as my personal understanding of art is concerned.
apparently it demonstrates how video games can be vehicles for serious messages, or something of the like - what was its message? or is the purpose solely to come to grips with tragedy?
give it ten years and we’ll have ‘9/11 - relive the crash’ out on PSP.
someoneisat - abu hamza preached really near to my house. thought you might be interested to know!
I think it is art… I’m not sure it’s a good videogame, and I’m not sure how well it manages to inform us or to explore the issue. But yeah, I’d say it is art.
Of course, the question of whether or not something is art is usually a question people ask as they’re deciding whether or not to be morally (or otherwise) outraged. I don’t think it’s all that objectionable really… We have tons of violent videogames, it’s just not usually in commemoration of real people. I think anyone who would be seriously offended by this piece would have to evaluate their position on other violent games. Especially the more realistic ones.
i would say that violent games which are actually intended to represent people who exist, or existed in reality are potentially much more offensive than those which are purely fictional, if only because they trivialize a subject which shouldn’t be trivialized - turn it into a ‘fun game’. to me this game seems disrespectful to those connected with the event and/or affected by it.
It is fun for a little bit – However your characters are pretty much invincible and your opponents don’t fight back.
After the first few minutes, it stops being fun and becomes this long hard drag that you have to finish because, well, you started it. I thought it was pretty well done, in that respect.
