Hello everyone, i m new here, a newbie so to speak.
So, if this forum was “the universe” i had just been born and i need guidance. Obviously i should ask myself Who am I ? or where did i come from ? - but because i already know the answer to those questions i shall move on to other things. As we all have expectations from the people around us here are mine.
What i offer: i offer myself as yet another peon among many and i shall do my best to present you with intelligent conversation.
What i expect to find: a couple of bright minds together with whom i shall do my best to toast my brain contemplating reality
What i hope not to find: Closed minded religious people who use philosophy as a refuge from the scientifical perspective of the world. I’d like to emphasize this; if you think the biblical god almighty created IT ALL dont bother to reply to this topic for i have no interest in meeting you.
All that being made clear i think i should try and offer something new to the community. I dont know how many of you have heard of the “Atheism Tapes” but i recommend them to everyone here.
They present interviews with some great minds on the matter even though some fail to consider the difference between “a creator” and “the biblical god” in the sense that the existance of the first is arguable where as the existance of the second one is just plain silly.
There is also an interview with a theologist who wrote a book called “How to be an atheist” and though he brings forth some decent arguments regarding the existance of “a creator” he by no means lights the fire in the christian or muslim hearts by proving that “their god is the right and only true god”.
glad to hear that and btw, after you’re all done with watching those interviews i’d like some feedback if possible. Who did you find most interesting?, etc…
I see, well i m not a native english speaker so i might not always understand the subtleties of some statements such as it is the case here. And even if that happens rarely i still usualy try and understand by the use of a dictionary.
That’s fine, dictionaries are useful, up to a point. My original statement was intended to be ambiguous, which was perhaps a little unfair on you. Nonetheless welcome to the boards, if you are inquisitive and good humoured then you’ll have a lot of fun here.
If you look for the ILP Map thread in Mundane Babble then you’ll see just how far this place spreads but off the top of my head we’ve got a poster or posters from Britain, Romania, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, all over the US, Canada…
I’ve been looking in importing some more communists as I feel that they are underrepresented here but so far I have been unlucky. We’ve got a few pseudocommunists…
Are you familiar with the allegations that soviet communism was advanced by a certain Wall Street ‘Cabal’ (was the word they used… ).
Insofar as I’ve read soviet communism and US capitolism are just clever illusions for the powers at be. Soviet communism to give the impression that power and money is being de-centralized but when really… the world is pretty much run by the World/Wall street banks.
So I agree… it would be nice to get some knowledgable communists to share some information on the macro trends they’ve (I’m hoping) studied.
This is the ape once again reminding everyone that the world is fucked… but in what I’m finding out to be an increasingly ingenious way.
Heh… it’s strange thinking back to history class in high school. I just accepted it as the truth…
