At The Local Grocery Store With Inflation

Hi, natasha, and welcome. I also make a lot of soups and stews out of leftovers. They can be supplemented with salads you can grow in a window box, if you want to. There are all sorts of things that can be added to the basics that are cheap–at least around here. All of them are good protein sources–without the starch from potatoes or rice. Qinoa is one, pearl barley is another–and there are many more.

The thing is, I don’t thing James wants to eat the way most of us do. I think he’s imagined how what he’s called “the Elite” eat, and wants the same diet given to him and his family by us. How does JLW envision that diet? It seems to me to be a high cholesterol, high fat, high sugar, highly processed food diet. I’m probably not correct.

I’m not a member of the elite.

O:)

Hi, lizbeth and thank you!

Oh, yes, I forgot quinoa and barley…eggs as well. A small garden and window box for herbs is another excellent idea!

I don’t know how or what James wants to eat, I was giving suggestions on how to stretch his food stamps for him and his family. If he prefers to ignore sensible suggestions posted here, and does not take the time to educate himself and LEARN HOW TO COOK, shame on him.

If James chooses to eat like “the Elite”, as you have suggested, well then he and his will also suffer the downside: obesity, hypertension, diabetes and pre-eclampsia (google it JLW) in his pregnant GF. Also bottle rot in the toddlers teeth. (Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY!!!)

Bolded By Me above: “WE”…the taxpayers, have given him and his a “Hand-Up” with the food stamps, if he chooses to use it as a “hand-out” or as some sort of conscious or subconscious political statement, he’ll be QUEEN for a Day, not King for a Lifetime. Let him eat (pre-packaged) cake! LOL!!

when you walk down the street and the sound’s not so sweet

O:)

I may be wrong but its not inflation particularly, there was a big thing about food derivatives a few years ago. Traders in derivatives used to have a deal with producers and growers, then the rules changed and they could pay what they want to the growers and charge what they want for the goods they get. In short, traders in cocoa get around 800% profit on what they sell to producers of chocolate etc.

Then there were some massive crop failure’s in the ukrane and elsewhere, and on the news they said the cost of grain etc would necessarily go up.

But guess what, the growers haven’t become rich! Guess who has; my guess is that traders have got richer, and the consumer relatively poorer. Its still all about recapitalising imho, but even when the banks are full again I doubt if things will change, its just easy money for people who don’t do the grunt work nor care about the cost of food.

There may also be an effort to curb population growth, but that’s just me being a conspiracy theorist. Well it all is. :stuck_out_tongue:

To Chairman Mao: I would say it is a mix between inflation and taxation. I see it getting worse real soon overall.

Look forward to $10.00 a loaf of bread.

Joker I think u mean “our” food stamp card. You don’t get foodstamps. It’s not all about you sweetheart!

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Jail food I will never eat rice and beans again!!!

A loaf of bread here on the windward side of the Island of Oahu is 6 dollars a loaf… and I am talking about the cheapest stuff.

A pack of steaks… 11 dollars. A vegetable… to fucking expensive. I can buy a can of spam for the same amount as a carrot.

Do you understand now why I have to be here?

I heard some pacific islanders once say spam was the closest thing they tasted to human flesh, I’ve cut ham out of my diet for years.

Enjoy the MREs

Oh yeah thats right, chh… they vary though. Maybe I can find someone who likes ham and trade, or maybe ill just say im a jew or a muslim.

Not that big of a deal anyway, just I try to avoid it when I can.

Ham?

In a MRE? You got high hopes. Spam is a luxury compared to what’s in that shit. Enjoy the fucking crackers. Remember those Walker?

Whatever meat component then.

Meat… yeah. Umm, yeah.

I know all about that stuff man my father both my grandfathers and my brother were in the military.

Weird thing about my dad is he actually liked the c-rations.

C Rations can be made very, very well if in competent hands by a cook. I shit you not, the best hamburger I ever had was at a cooks mess in his tent in Fort Irwin, out in the Mohave Desert. He took just plain field army rations, only army seasons provided with them, and made them into gold. We were Blue Force, so didn’t have to starve (meaning my battalion was support, everyone pretending to be Iraqi for another Brigade to use us in scenarios during a fake deployment- I built my famous fake 50 cal there… you might here about it if you go to NTC, I heard they made a special rule because of me making it look like a 50 cal and forcing their UAV to waste half it’s allowed runs trying to figure out what it was- made it from garden fence poles and a garbage bag and scrap metal for it’s tripod… looked like the real thing length wise, caused the entire brigade to shift it’s attack from the most obvious direction where my gun was to the south to north attack, they took very heavy casualties because of that, and didn’t even know that was the reason why till long after I returned to Alaska, completely forgetting that until it was brought up in a discussion on another day when I was building my helicopter in the supply room and was scene… people ran to get the command staff cause I was building something again and caused all those ‘problems’ in the past. I am a horrible person to emulate, honestly, don’t.) and the food tasted amazing anyway. We couldn’t figure it out… but were addicted to it. We gave him a plaque and sent him command thank you letters. Never since have I ever had something that good tasting hamburger wise. He’s just like, the most amazing cook in America, completely unknown in the shadows cause to eat in his restaurant, you gotta be deployed in bullshit operations like that.

There are price wars going on in all our supermarkets here, which is great for the consumer as prices are actually starting to come down in years…

Unfortunately though, England is utterly inane in terms of food selection, and is very easy to show, the Brown Egg vs. White Egg scam being at the forefront.

In England, they used to eat White Eggs like normal people, but then some stupid numbskull convinced a few people that brown eggs were healthier… which is funny given brown eggs and white eggs both come from chickens, just a different gene governing the color… egg inside has repeatedly been shown to be identical. But the craze moo-moo liberals jumped on the band wagon and convinced everyone that was the case as well.

Truth of the matter is, there is no other food in the grocery store than A EGG, not to mention a carton of them, that has more cholesterol in them, not even in the meat isle. But you can’t buy white eggs in Britain anymore. Same goes for the Genetically Modified Foods debacle. There are people all over England and Europe afraid a carrot is the harbinger to the end of the world. They’ve gone so far as to terrorize african countries using genetically modified crops designed to survive in the climate there into not using them anymore, turning famine prone areas into wastelands so a that sick minded terrorist nation in the north sea can munch of their swine shit smeared organic cucumbers… as if that’s somehow healthier.

Given the wave of eurozone socialist movements in the recent election, and the inevitable economic repercussions… I suspect another holistic-organic crusade is on the horizon to artificially raise the prices of food needlessly.

America has much more food competition that England can ever dream of. We did it even during the depression. I’m not too impressed, as our foodmarket chains are products of FDR era Socialism. A lot of leftist don’t quite realize just how much Walmart is a byproduct of their proressive ideology… it got the Super-Depot and mass hiring and welfare recipient base down exact that was pioneered by chains like Krogers when they were under government control. In many ways Krogers still is given how much foodstamps passes through it. England is aping us. Be even funnier of Japan with the Sogo Sosha system claims diversity and competition would reduce prices. It would make absolutely NO SENSE to claim it there, as the Sogo Sosha’s would buy and market each competing ‘brand’.

I roll over an laugh at some of the stuff that comes out of people’s mouth at times about Communism or Capitalism, and which qualifies as which. Both the left and the right are fucked up in the head, but the left these last two decades have gone off the deepend into stupid land. It’s all making less and less since to anyone who has the faintest understanding of logistics and the history of food distribution and PR battles. It’s why I keep the shit simple. I eat SPAM. :character-spamguy: :character-spamcan:
