Add something to the serious threads or KEEP OUT! The mundane / rant forums are for this sort of inane drivel

That’s a great question. What is energy exactly? We could roughly define it as a quantity that can change the physical states of matter in time. But we also know that matter is equivalent to energy, so we could change the above definition to: energy is something that interacts with itself to produce change. That doesn’t really tell us very much though.
Everything could be defined as energy. The entire universe could be reduced down to this “energy” as its base state. But why should there be any energy? Without energy there is no interaction, there is nothingness, there is void, there is zero.
So there is really no answer to that question in terms of science.
I know this is completely off topic, but how do you join the heavily moderated philosophy forum?
