Audio books are fuggin wikkid Seriously, for doing mundane tasks like laundry, groceries… etc. Audio books are the way to go. Expand your mind whilst shaving I suggest mininova.org For some good audio books. Type in philosophy, and you’d be surprised at some of the quality that pops up. I’m about to listen to “The Story of Philosophy” by will durant. Also I’ve found many good science audio books, such as Carl Sagans “The demon haunted world” theres a lot of Chomsky there too.
Check it out, you’ll thank me. Never again will ironing be such a boring task
P.s Anyone know of anymore good sites for audio books ?
This is a decent site for hearing audio recordings of some books/poems/short stories…I would be interested to know if anyone had any other FREE online AUDIO web links…
Good to cross paths with you again Km2 Its been awhile, and I’ve had some harrowing adventures, but I’m back, and I see you are as well. I remember the message I got from you, sorry I never replied it was some hairy times, and I just wasn’t to concerned about Ilp democracy at the time, also I wasn’t to aware of the situation you were trying to inform me about.
Anyways, Good to see you again old chap, and my apologies about not responding to the message
Good to know I didn’t offend. Well a bit of trouble here and there I went on the road for quiet sometime, spend many hours in the backroom of some biker bar filled with smoke, and neanderthals, trying to empty their pokets whilst not getting my ass kicked. hit every casino from Ontario to Vancouver, spent some time in Whistler, and the Kooteny’s… Just had a bit of fun really. Every mourning I wake up I’m suprised I find most days to be an adventure, the past six months just more then most.
My philosophy has changed quiet a bit since we last talked. I find myself more and more influenced by Dennett, and ultra Darwinists. I’m very interested in A.I, and think that the field has much to tell us about consciousness. Getting back into physics and mathematics. I’m really interested in Loop quantum gravity, Quantum computing, and algorithmic information theory. These are areas I’m starting to explore, but have little knowledge of at the moment.
I tend to listen to film reviews, news and comedy shows on the radio when doing that sort of activity so have never got into audiobooks. For those interested in good comedy there’s a new series of ‘Think the Unthinkable’, a radio sitcom about a management consultancy firm, starting next week. If you can’t be bothered expanding your mind then at least learn a few good jokes.
Yeah it has, to some extent, but theres a lot of bullshit here. Problem is theres a lot of bullshit everywhere. I was in one of those moods. But I’ll be the first to admit, if I thought that I’d find another website that was open to the public, and any different from ILP, or any better for that matter(that being less of utterly meaningless, and out of left field posts) I was mistaken.
Like most of my peers haven’t said the same from time to time though. I suppose it’s just culture I find depressing, as usual, and at the time I took it out on ILP. Since ILP being “open to all” as it is, is most likely a fairly good litmus test of the general population of the philosophically minded.
My apologies Ben, I enjoy your website, even though I sometimes find sifting through the vast deposts of bullshit depressing at times, even though its a property that ILP could never rid itself of, while still promoting free thought, and who would want to get rid of that.
So tally ho!! Keep up the good fight and all that!!
I’m forever in two minds about the BBC: I think that what it delivers is well worth the license fee (particularly compared to the dross on Sky) but I hate the fact that they spend such a high proportion of their money on costume dramas, literary adaptations and so forth.
I think that a recent Radio 5 interview with Rupert Murdoch is available for download on the BBC site as a realplayer file or a podcast. I listened to it live and found it fascinating. I also heartily recommend Mark Kermode’s film reviews (every thursday afternoon, radio 5). I disagree with the guy a lot but he’s very enthusiastic and clearly loves films and spends a lot of his time watching them and reading about them.
http://www.isohunt.com good ones on there too. I thought they were the same as mininova(I thought that isohunt shared the servers), but its torrentbox, and isohunt who are partners, not mininova.
