I was listening to a CD of Kohaciro Miyata, playing the shakuhachi, the Japanese flute, while I worked the desk in my office. The music is quite soothing and profoundly sad. When I popped the disc out of the player I continued to hear the flute just as loudly as when the CD was playing for several seconds. An electric fan on behind me. As the flute’s tone faded after a few seconds I could still hear the pitch in the whir of the fan bade. I am not high, I swear. The experience reminded me of the visual after-image you see with optical illusions. Has anyone had an experience like this?
All the time. I particularly like it when the instruments in question start playing a new tune that sounds better than the original.
I went to see Mogwai and had a ringing in my ears for two days afterwards.
