Australian Election

For those of you who are interested, in Australia we had an election on the 21st of August. Still, as of the 27th of August we have what is called a “hung parliament”. The first time since 1940. It is when one party cannot get a clear majority. One party is required to get 76 seats to make government, and at the moment both parties have 72 seats and are trying to convince a number of Independents and one Green to favour their policies so a majority government can be formed.

It’s a fitting outcome to what has been hailed “the most boring election ever”. Both parties are almost identical on all issues. The only difference is Labor want to create a National Broadband Network and the Liberals want to introduce Paid Maternity Leave. Although the Liberals denied Climate Change recently, the word is that they will eventually accept it and put a price on carbon.

Australia is one of only 3(?) countries in the world that has compulsory voting. So we allow the apathetic and dumb to vote. Long Live Democracy!!

It’s all government funded. Companies won’t have to pay a cent.

yeah true.

13 days on and we still have no prime minister. :banana-dance:

We just installed a military dictatorship.
