Where can I see who has been banned?
I do not believe that we keep a current banned list. If you want to know about any particular user, with Carleas’ permission, I’d be happy to exchange that information with you via PM.
Aside from that, I know that we changed the ranks of banned Users to, “Banned,” for awhile there. I don’t think that we are still in that practice, but if it automatically does that, then you could just go through the User lists.
Click “members” at the top of the screen then scroll through the list looking for people w/ the title “banned”. It’s tedious, but most research is.
We don’t really ban people any more, aside from spam bots. The only users I know of that are permanently banned are RealUnoriginal and Satyr. Otherwise, bans are temporary based on the number of warnings a user accrues, and never exceed 6 months.
The “Banned” ranks are most likely out of date, because they date from the earlier policy of permanently banning people.
Also, because we have banned a zillion spammers, I may be overlooking some usernames that weren’t unbanned when the new policy was put in place. At that time, the list of banned users was posted in a discussion in Rant House. But as I said, this list isn’t accurate anymore.
And of course, we can answer questions about specific posters, and if you see anything amiss in anything I’ve said let me know. I try to keep up on these things, but it’s a big and buzzing place, this ILP.
EDIT: also, we permanently ban sock-puppets of people who have been temporarily banned and are trying to get around the ban. This is pretty rare, because most bans are for less than a week.
Correction: Satyr is not actually permanently banned, he was just on the high end of the temporary ban scale. Apologies to Satyr and to anyone confused by my claims.
