Moved from PoR thread: I had asked a question of how to get off a plateau with workouts… any ideas anyone?
Leave it to the drifter to pull us back to philosophy. Good one.
Mas. Thanks.
This sounded like a contradiction… should I forgo the strength exercises or up them? I know changing it up is important, and I do think the protein thing is huge because I don’t like meat.
Dan says
Honey, were you suggesting drugs of some kind?
faust,
I am a creature of habit - I think it keeps me from going off deep ends. This would be hard, but i am going to try that.
If you choose to not eat natural eggs, (brown eggs being best … they still have all the antibodies for “natural innoculation”), because yes, they are high in fat, then find a supplement. It isn’t difficult, but go to a known health food store with a good reputation and question them about the purity of amino complexes in the product they sell … usually you pay a bit more for more refined and complete amino complexes … and make sure you READ THE LABEL … I’ve seen ones that say “Egg protein” and they have chicken or beef or some other crap in there … ALWAYS read the label.
Fat isn’t an issue for me, and as I have dry skin, it helps for me to have some high fat content foods … with you being a lady, it is likely that just the supplement is what you need.
But not every body has the same exact biochemical capabilities/deficiencies … so even those sites tend to be one sided in their perspective … they are more geared towards “body builders” fitness, than “everyday person” fitness.
A complete diet … most of foods, not supplements, is the best answer for a person who doesn’t work out 4 - 8 hours a day … the requirements change under that type of stress.
Not to mention, age has an effect upon the workings of metabolism/chemistry/heart rate … so the most important knowledge, is personal knowledge of your own body, attributes and limitations.
All I know is that I am doing something wrong, wrong wrong… I have ceased getting results and I will be damned if I am going to be fat. Now I tent would just stop sending me boxes of candy from idaho.
But seriously, I maintain a decent diet… probably not enough protein… and I know not enough water. I was losing for a while by just eating veggies after 4 or so, but got bored with that. What do you guys think of alcohol and is it true that hard liquor is better than wine bc of the sugar or is that a myth?
Ad, thank you so much for listing those sites - they will give me something to chew on tonight. I do think Mas may have a point tho’. Women lose so much differently than men - lack of testosterone is a tough one for a million reasons, but that beard just wasn’t working with those supplements. LMAO.
Thank you, Ad!
What’s your take on this carb issue? I simply need my carbs with the amount of running I do.
From an empirical perspective, carbohydrates are necessary in a numerically substantial way, especially for seratonin production, which powers all of the brain chemistry … depriving the body of such, is a fools game of waiting for a breakdown.
The one problem with Europeans/Americans … we get too much of our carbohydrates from glucose sources, and being as we are of the order of specialized primates, frugiovores, our systems are geared more towards fructose sources … hence, up the fruit in your diet, especially earlier in the day … virtually no calories, and the “sugars” are metabolised at a higher rate.
I know your difficulty with carbohydrates, I love my pasta as well. In truth, rice products are less stressfull on the system. I hate it, but it’s true. The glutons in wheat cause problems with digestion and absorption.
Stay away from margarines … all of them. Real butter, actual butter, is a better cooking/eating product, even with the higher fat content. It is nutrient rich, and aids digestion/absorption
As with everything lady Bessy, moderation and balance.
Dairy if you don’t like meat, try dairy or legumes. There are protein mixes out there that range from fairly tasty to gag. With out knowing your ultimate goal it is hard to say how to get to the next level. Your body should tell you. Ask your self what do you crave? What muscles are no longer burning in that type of growth pain. Swim, swimming is the ultimate exercise. It builds muscles and stamina. Drink plenty of fluids while going through a rigorous exercise period . Swimming does cause loss of fluids even if you don’t notice it. Weight lifting and other exercises are great but I found that enhanced with swimming you will achieve a complete rounded healthy body. Swimming uses muscles that are not normally used in most exercises. The best part about swimming is it does not cause impact injuries. It builds with out harm.
Whatever change you adopt, I imagine it will work sufficiently. Sometimes you just need a change, doesn’t really matter what direction. I took the whole summer off, basically , but back when I when I was deep into the season I went through the same thing; I wasn’t worried about getting fat per say, but I simply stopped seeing an improvement – and that was excersizing 2.5-3 hours a day.
Went home, had a quick swim, felt all nice and sore the next day. So yeah, if you can try swimming. It’s a great workout and it allows you to regulate your breathing (I think) easier.
Excersizing with precise breathing techniques can lead to states of consciousness which also aid in seeing ‘improvements’. Try to visualize your muscles changing in the fashion you desire; try to know that your intentions can improve your results, because they can.
Yep, move for move, swimming is the best exercise you can do.
It also has a subliminal effect on us. It reminds us of the fetal stage when we floated around in the womb. And flying dreams could be symbolic reproductions of that feeling.
Literally “To sit quietly”. (dependent upon phonetic attachements, and whether you are using archaic, traditional, or formalised Mandarin, “on the ground” has also been added).
Most people who talk about meditation think they know about it, when it is a relatively simple exercise, and it happens in both the East and the West.
Some Chinese and Japanese no longer believe in meditation … it’s an “old majick users trick”.
Sounds like a lame excuse but there have been so many changes in the last 30 years and I just wonder whether the abuse of over dieting has affected me. I am in the best aerobic shape of my life. I have weight trained for years and so - I don’t have to do it that often for my body to bounce back into shape 1-2 times a week. I just kicked my running up to an hour for the sake of the burn. It seems to help except the old knees - not to mention, i hate to run. I learn lyrics for the band… tho’ so I get lost in the music.
Funny, Kris, but I heard swimming is the best exercise but the worst fat burner - think whales and blubber. I have never met a chubby swimmer though - they are pretty lean.
I am also working against mother nature with age but I refuse to buy that crap. I have an inking that portion size can be a problem… so I am concentrating on it. If I get to my goal, I am posting a photo. I will give myself 6 mos for the UK reunion - so no pressure.
Thank you to all - I m going to Smooth’s fitness thread to read. Yea!
Eat well, and like a poster mentioned, it depends on you. Some, like me, love the taters, now, I seldom purchase them. There are methods to test regarding what works best with your body, and most trainers can do with with an analysis test which is about $40.00.
Ah, hell, I prefer happy to the torn muscles, and yes, I do left weights.
I had a trainer - I barter everything - I taught him piano and he trained me to lift. I didn’t say I was in bad shape… so, I guess what I am saying, it is about the food. I love it… I live for it and the more I work out the more I want. It’s a pasta thing.
Al dente, butter, grated parmsan… oh, god it’s orgasmic to me.
