Q. What are the symptoms of lung cancer?

A. There are a variety of symptoms of lung cancer, including difficulty breathing, coughing up blood, chest pain, loss of appetite, weight loss and general fatigue. Some lung cancers do not cause any noticeable symptoms until they are quite advanced and have spread to other parts of the body.

Q. How is lung cancer diagnosed?

A. Lung cancers are sometimes first detected on routine chest X-rays. However, the main method of diagnosis is bronchoscopy, in which a thin, flexible tube is inserted down the airways (under anaesthetic), allowing doctors to see the inside of the lungs and even take a biopsy (a sample small of the suspect tissue). A CT scan, liver ultrasound or bone scan may also be used to find out if the cancer has spread.

Nobody loved to smoke I like I did. I still love the smell of it and miss it like crazy. But:

Please quit?

I am trying. I smoke a pack every couple of days to less, sometimes more. I have no problems when I can’t smoke. I don’t smoke in my home. I have to run every day and do heavy work that causes my lungs to work harder. So even while I am in the process of quitting I am working to keep up and clean my body. I have been smoking since I was 16, I am 42 and I have another 42 yrs possible ahead of me if I quit now.

True I must also give up coffee and beer temporarily but hey, if I get to stay in this body longer so that I can harrass certain people, its worth it.

Joel, somtimes you gotta say what the fuck. (I only say it about twice a week in regard to smoking.) So two a week or so, most people aren’t capable of sustained moderation like me. But if you learn how to walk the line, the world is yours. It is one of life’s most worthy challenges, seeking balance and moderation.

What about people who have lung cancer and don’t smoke?

Then what?

A good friend of mine finally shook the habit after some 40 years of smoking. He invited me to dinner for a six month celebration (just to see if he couldn’t make me feel guilty about my own smoking) of his quitting. We had a great dinner and I kept the wine flowing to the point we had to call his wife to come get us, because we were too drunk to find the car let alone drive anywhere. Ten days later he was killed in a head-on collision. After the funeral, I went back to graveside and left a pack of cigarettes for him. Lights, so he wouldn’t hurt himself too bad…

I’d wager he didn’t smoke them but thanked you anyway.

I quit smoking a few years back, though like Gamer, I still occassionally have one.
I smoke one or two a month, if that.
And I always feel better and worse.

-Thirst

You sure it was the influence of the alcohol that inhibited your ability to find the car?

It seems to me, this could be a standard scenario for any pair of elderly friends out for a night.

Probably best if you have a chapperone from now on … ? :evilfun:

Gamer - you aren’t a real smoker, honey… anything in moderation is cool.

Tent,

I want to tell you the story of my dad, which will make you want to keep smoking. My dad smoked everything that walked - cigars, cigarillos, pipes, unfiltered Camels - you name it. I used to hide my daddy’s ciggies and bury them in the garden because I didn’t want him to die. He died of brain cancer when he was far too young. My age right now.

His death had nothing to do with his smoking, and I am so glad he smoked and enjoyed the life he had… I just want people I love to stop.

Life is love, and you can’t love if you can’t be healthy.

Is killing in moderation cool?
How about abortion in moderation?
Or stealing in moderation?

-Thirst

thirst,

anything in moderation that affects only you. You’re kinda twisting the snake, aren’t you?

So, cutting myself in moderation is cool?
Is stabbing myself in moderation cool?
How about abusing myself mentally in moderation… is that cool?

There’s nothing inherently cool about moderation.

-Thirst

No, thirst. Not nasty things, but things that we have in our every day, like sunshine, food, liquor, grass, TV etc, etc.

You knew what I meant.

No nasty things? So is anal sex out of the question? I just want a one line guideline that is applicable to every possible human scenario so that I can avoid thinking at all costs…

Is that too much to ask!?

-Thirst

Btw: Bessy, this is not a rant about you or what you wrote.

thirst,

You define for yourself what is hurtful to you. Being an imperfect creature like the rest of us, you will do things harmful to yourself. Moderation is simply recognizing that we don’t always do the right things for ourselves, but that taking anything to it’s extreme takes us into not just harmful, but destructive behavior. Moderation allows a three dimensional person, not a two dimensional either/or creature.

Check out the prayer thread in religion. That ought to work for you.

Okay thirst,

For you, my dear, I will make exceptions. May you have anal sex until you need a wheelchair.

Better?

All hail the master of twisting - Thirst4metal. He is supreme ruler of twisting. None can stand against his canny twisting manipulations.

He will give lessons on twisting if you pay him 15 thousand dollars per 15 minutes.

Thirst, as your twisting manager I get 20 percent. We should let the rest know what fool/s actually parted with the cash. I am sure the others could teach that person/s some lessons for a price

thirst: Brilliant. =D>

Others: thirst is twisting? Looked to me like he was stating the ‘obvious’ of which you accounted little for, wherein the twists lie on your own borders.

Thirst, get the one that has a snap-on colostomy bag holder – extra large – because we know you’re full of it.

.

Ha!

-Thirst

Oh Bessy, sounds like you, like me, were a daddy’s girl. My father died of emphazyma, probably due to smoking 3 packs a day of the cheap brands, and whisky too boot. I was the one in the room when he died, I just knew it was his time.

Regardless, I still smoke a pack every three days, and never smoke on campus. That is, I often go 12 hours without smoking, but light up when I am off campus. Just went through a round of tests, xrays, etc. nothing wrong except taking Benadryl at night caused my blood pressure to skyrocket. What is odd is that my oxygen intake is 100% and I smoke. Weird.

Take care honey, you are right, smokers need to quit. I wish smoking was simply illegal. Listen to the idiot talking about government controlling smoking, next it will be who knows. Ah, forget it.

With regards,
