Best player in the world is Zinidine Zidane. Hands down. He now has a collection of Brasilian jocks, willingly dropped by wannabes and wouldbes, and oh, that’s right, losers who are going home. Along with Argentina.
Tired of hearing about how great these teams are, how superior they are to the European footballers. Well, they’re not. Football is a team sport, and if you don’t play for the team, then you are just a wannabe.
Vive la France!!!
Predictions:
France v. Portugal 2-0
Germany v. Italy 2-1
Final:
France v. Germany 1-1, France wins on PK.
Of course I can’t end this without saying that once again referees screwed up some games. England’s Wayne Rooney, although a hothead, didn’t deserve a red card, especially considering the ref never saw the foul, which looked more like a stumble than an intentional shot. Destroy FIFA, they are ruining a world class sport, enjoyed by billions.
I have to say, Zidane was superb tonight. France fully deserved to beat a mediocre Brazil team. Henry, when he learnt where the offside line was, had a very good game. Second half, he moved out his favoured inside left position and Ribery practically came up to play as a second striker. Both were a constant menace to a Brazil backline that looked tired and poorly organised.
What I like about France is that they’ve gone for it. Thuram, Barthez, Makelele, Zidane, even Vieira is chalking up the years. But they’ve found a system that provides an elegant blend between attack and defence, a threat from all over the pitch (excellent set pieces, for one) and a lot of discipline when needed.
Ronaldinho - has had a terrific season, but a poor World Cup. Like Lampard in that respect. He may have put in a weak game tonight but he’s capable of this kind of stuff, so I’m not going to rule him out just yet.
