Best Verse of Lyrics?

what is your favorite verse of lyrics from any song, popular or classical.

For me it’s either this line from Donna Hashish from the musical hair

I’ve been to India and saw the yoga light
In South America the Indian smoke glows bright
I’m reincarnated and so are we all
And in this lifetime we’ll rise
Before we fall

or this Bob Dylan from the song My Back Pages

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin’ high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
“We’ll meet on edges, soon,” said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I’m younger than that now.

well big brains, what are some of you’re favorites?

Dylan
Darkness at the break of noon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
The handmade blade the child’s balloon
To understand you know to soon
There is no sense in trying

You can take any verse out of it’s Alright Ma. The entire song is a masterpiece.

Beck - Nicotine and Gravy
I’ll be you chaufeur on a midnight drive
It takes a miracle just to survive
Do you laundry, massage your Soul
Turn you over to highway patrol

Silly and stupid, but clever and even romantic.

The Doors the End
Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain

Just the one line evokes a really strong sense of suffering. I can relate to that.

Porno for Pyros - Pets
Children are innocent
Teenagers are fucked up in the head
Adults are even more fucked up
And elderlies are like children

Simple, but profound.

Jane’s Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
I been caught stealing
Once when I was five
I enjoy stealing
It’s just as simple as that
When I want something and I don’t want to pay for it
I just walk right out the door

Honest and fun.

My preferred stanza on My Back Pages is

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
“Rip down all hate,” I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I’m younger than that now.

It makes me think of my idealistic youth and how I thought I knew everything.

Jane’s Addiction - Ain’t no wrong
Ain’t no wrong
Ain’t no right
There’s only pleasure and pain

Helped me to justify my own beliefs on morality

Simon & Garfunkle He Was My Brother

He died so his brothers could be free
Oh God
He died so his brothers could be free

The lines don’t make sens out of context of the song, but withing the context it’s a beautiful way to summarize the story of the song. His brother was killed for being a civil rights activist in the time of Jim Crowe in the south. He died so his brother’s could be free.

Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil
The whole song is another masterpiece, but in particular I like

I rode a tank held a general’s rank
When the Blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank
I shouted out who killed the Kennedys
When after all it was you and me

and

Your kings and queens fought for ten decades for the god they made.

Another commentary on morality, I believe. The conclusion being we are the creators of right and wrong.

Greed Day Jesus Of Suburbia

To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes
And Mary Jane (marijuana) to keep me insane
And doing someone elses cocaine

Sums up the values of my high school years: Alcohol, cigarettes, and Mary Jane.

Ben haper- Burn one Down

Let us burn one, from end to end.
And pass is over to me my friend.
Burn it long, but burn it slow,
to light me up before I go.

If you dont like my fire, then dont come around.
Cause I’m gonna burn one down.
Yes I’m gonna burn one down

My choice is what i chose to do;
and if I’m causin no harm,
it shouldn’t bother you.
Your choice is who you chose to be;
and if your causin to harm, then your alright with me.

continued below…

If you dont like my fire, then dont come around, cause I’m gona burn one down.
Yes i’m gonna burn one, down.

Herb the gift, from the Earth,
and what’s from the earth is of the greatest worth.
So before u knock it, try it first.
and you’ll see it’s a blessing and it’s not a curse.
If you dont like my fire, then dont come around,
cause i’m gonna burn one down.
Yes i’m gonna burn one

dead kennedys

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the Neutron bomb
It’s nice and quick and clean and gets things done
Away with excess enemy
But no less value to property
No sense in war but perfect sense at home:

The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight

Gonna
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

Behold the sparkle of champagne
The crime rate’s gone
Feel free again
O’ life’s a dream with you, Miss Lily White
Jane Fonda on the screen today
Convinced the liberals it’s okay
So let’s get dressed and dance away the night

While they:
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

-Imp

Well, I only listen to Wuthering Heights. Though I do like this line;
It’s hard to hold the hand of anyone who is reaching for the sky just to surrender

It’s not a verse, but

Take the skinheads bowling

,is a good line by Camper Van Beethoven. I guess it was his advice on how to help them change their ways.

This is one of my favorite verses of all time. It’s heroin talk from Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots — “Interstate Love Song”

Is it talk on heroin, or is it talk about heroin? I can’t make sense of it.

Hes saying that when your listening to him talk its like being on heroin.

Is Xanax like being on heroin?

the pill zanex? I think not even close. Thats like for anxiety/muscle relaxent.
