Beyond your green pastures,
I wondered
at the numbers of them,
divergent,
discordant,
yet moving
as one.
Beyond your still waters,
I wondered
at the masses of them.
The songs
distinct,
unique,
yet sounding
as one.
Beyond the valley
of the shadow,
I wondered
at the sorrow of them,
The hearts’ dissent,
the heart’s descent,
Do they not
love
as one?
And I wondered
then,
as you rested
beside me,
as you rested
beyond me,
if you wondered
that, too –
if we wondered
as one.
