When I found out about this I wanted to puke. Awful stuff this BGH. What they do (in the US) is they inject cows with this hormone that makes them bigger and produce more milk, its unnatural and it makes the cows sick. When the cows get sick their utters start to seep puss out. With the milk we drink comes an nice dose of sick cow puss. Its beautiful eh? So you think your milk is safe? Well, many places refuse to sell BGH milk although most of the milk that we get from ice cream we eat and coffee we drink and well…tons of stuff, yeah most of it is BGH milk.
Lets get into the juicy tidbits, what exactly is this going to do to you? In Canada and in the UK their respective “FDAs” did studies with BGH milk and found that not only is it harmful to the health of the cows, it caused cancer in lab animals after 90 days of exposure.
In the US the FDA also did their studies, and they found that BGH had no detrimental effects! What they also did was not allow labels to be placed on the milk that would inform the potential buyer whether or not that milk is BGH milk.
Now thats fucked. We are talking about very basic health and safety here. Canada and the UK say “No fucking way would we let that shit slide!”. Of course the US; ultra-capitalist, hypocritical amoral mindset…I’m enraged.

Everything I’ve read suggests that while BGH is terrible for the cows, very little gets passed onto humans. Sure, some invariably does, which is why children are developing at a faster rate and hitting puberty considerably earlier, but the things like “pus” and such from the cows, well pasteurization takes care of anything that might “infect” you so all you’ve really got is more low-quality milk.
What, capitalism driving products down to their cheapest, poorest quality forms? Who knew.
Well that explains my son’s size 14 feet and 6’3 height. I suppose I can blame the pus for making him rotten.
Its all well and good to tell people to purchase healthier products. Are you going to subsidize it? If you have not noticed the healthy stuff costs an arm and a leg more. How many families can afford to feed 2 or 3 kids like that?
Boycott is fine, but if you really want to help , make the manufactures of the healthy products sell at a purchaseable price for the poor. There is your real problem. There is no real or larger reason other than controlled supply for healthy food to cost so much.
It isn’t that the healthy stuff costs more, it is that the poor-quality stuff costs less. This is an important distinction, since it is created by mass-production with the intent of being as cheap as possible. People can make do with less and make do with better – but American culture isn’t really set up that way. Our subsidies are in all the wrong places, so when people are short on cash they really have no option but to buy crap because that is all the grocery stores carry.
Xunzian, think foodstamps, not just cash. You are quite correct, in the distinction on a technical, level, but, do you honestly think a parent can see it that way or care? Parents see that the healthy things are out of reach for them, it is seen as costing more. Feeding a couple of kids a reasonable diet is hard . A healthy diet is impossible. Buying enough sustaining healthy food on limited foodstamps can’t be done. I and a few others have done the math in stores. Not all people on foodstamps buy ridiculous foods. I have had to try to help friends shop with their foodstamps. We could not do it even with coupons. Junk cheap food had to be bought in order to make food last the month.
Which is precisely what I mean when I say that American subsidies are in all the wrong places – not to mention our support for our poor is abysmal.
I mean, honestly, how many more subsidies does corn needs? I can buy a drink that is pretty much pure corn sugar with some preservatives for next to nothing but heaven-forbid I actually buy some juice!
No I don’t wanna hear this. Don’t you get it!? This is an outrage and it should not be tolerated. You say pastuerization cleans that shit out? There shouldn’t be any of it.
Heres what you guys may not know. It is actually not beneficial for milk producers to use BGH, it has run its course and now people realize they cannot use it to increase their overall production, because it makes the cows so sick. So why would the FDA do what they did? Because it would be to hard to phase out? We shouldn’t HAVE TO GET a dose of puss, and I don’t care how small that dose is. BTW they already did studies on this and YES their is a decent dose a cancerous shit in your milk.
