Whats there to get? Its an english term. I dont think its offensive… I used the term as a child… I used to live in a very mulit-cultural communty and no one minded using the term there. I think its the same as the term mulatto… although after watching Curb Your Enthusiasm i discovered that word was offensive. Im just gonna stick to saying bi-racial. Too many people to offend these days.
The term half-caste is considered a pejorative term and comes from the Hindu Caste system. The idea that someone is ‘half’ of what they could be is considered offensive and so the more positive ‘multi-racial’ is considered acceptable. Also the caste system is not looked upon favourably by many Western societies.

As a immediate consceqence of the event, I actually held the initial suspicsion that English was not taugh in the proper way in foreign schools. I recognise that poem, I think we looked at in in English and we watched a video of a man reading it out along with other various poems from different cultures. I obviously never took much notice of it. Well I guess i should stop saying half-caste now that I know its offensive.

Actually a person with a mixed genetic heritage might enjoy more robust health. The strengths of one genetic line might compensate for the weaknesses of another. Genetic disorders that cluster under a particular race would have a decreased chance of expression.
Then again genetics is always a bit unpredictable in a small population of offspring.
Especially when you say them.
