Pardon me SAnjay, but I want to try to answer this in a sense from your perspective.
If Flannel were to thrive he would not act wrongly. In this specific case.
From Sanjay’s perspective once we are truly thriving we are doing good. So there is no reason not to wish even one’s enemies well.
And then cursing, from Sanjay’s perspective is not acting rightly. It is wishing ill on someone who is, at root, the same as you.
People can thrive by ‘doing good’ but that’s not the only reason they thrive. People have a lot of behaviors, some beneficial and some not.
People can thrive because of their ‘bad’ behavior and people can thrive in spite of their ‘bad’ behavior.
A person can be a successful and respected television personality and a pedophile.
What’s the typical argument against capitalism? A small group of rich people thrive because they exploit the workers.
You are wishing for a change in your enemy, that he stops slaughtering and enslaving you. Right?
The assumption being that when he stops, he will be better off.
Historically, the enemy has often rejected that assumption, especially when it has a material advantage.
You both missed my point. Though, i admit that perhaps for reason because i did not make my point clearly.
First of all, i was commenting only on FC, not FJ.
As i have been somewhat busy during last 15 days or so, thus not aware of what is going on between FC and FJ. So, i was not commenting on who is right or wrong.
The words of FC gave me impression that he was somewhat annoyed with the moderation of FJ and used some harsh words in expressing his (FC’s) intention. But, he (FC) later realized that it was not the proper way to it or perhaps more than would be justified.
So, he (FC) is now moving a step back from that position and saying that even if FJ has been done somethng wrong and he (FC) condemmed that, still he (FC) now wants him (FJ) to do well (of course, in the righteous way) in the future.
I lift the curse means to me that now i am shrugging off all ill previous ill feelings about you.
That sounds noble to me so i praised FC for that. I was simply standing by the face value of the remark, without being judgemental on issue between them.
In other words, May God show you the righteous way and prosper. And, you can say it to anyone, whether he was right or wrong.
It just shows your noble intentions, not his.
I do not know whether i am right or wrong in intrepreting FC. Only FC knows that and i would like to see his view also on this but i am telling my intention.
Phyllo - if FJ had been ‘slaughtering and enslaving my people’ I doubt not only that I would have wished him the best, but also that my initial attacks would have been verbal.
To make it more simple for you phyllo, FJ has not actually done me any harm. If he had done those things in your scenario, he would be dead now, or he would have killed me in my attempt to kill him. But nothing like that is the case. He just made some moderating decisions I disapprove of. Like Sanjay said, I have no ill feelings toward him.
