Buddhism And Nihilism Comparing To Christianity

@Lorikeet

“But you see, Buddhism is just as nihilistic as Christianity is.” - Satyr

What do you know about Buddhism and the Devas?

Then there was the Greco-Bactrian empire where Zues and Herakles were equally revered along side Buddha.

I don’t know Greco-Bacterian is but it sounds like a problem.

Buddhism is to Hinduism what Abrahamism is to Hellenism…a symptom of decline and a necessity due to population pressures.

Nihilistic.

Such dogmas emerge in urban environments…where parasites and diseases often flourish.

It’s one thing to say something, it’s another to backup what you’re saying.

Show me how Buddhism is nihilistic.

There is no Abraham, Hebrews, Zionists, or ancient Israelites in the Buddhist worldview.

Unlike Christians that would persecute pagans or polytheists Buddhists would instead coexist with them.

In the ancient scholarly learning temples of priests devoted to Indra or Vishnu you would find Buddhist monks in attendance having philosophical debates with Hindu practitioners.

I don’t think you understand the history of Asia and Buddhism very well. Western history is your forte, Asian history is not.

Denial of self…for starters…

Negating all biological identifiers. The ultimate goal is to never be born, again.

A hatred for existence.

“Now, I shall never, never again enter a womb!”

Let’s start there.

And the ancient Greek or Roman writers who regarded paganism and polytheism worship as nothing more than idol worship?

The atheistic Xenephon comes to mind. Men like him especially cynics had a low regard for existence and how everything inevitably leads to annihilation. Your own Diogenes would masturbate publicly in the marketplace.

Your point being what exactly?

Ancient Greeks entertained every philosophy…every worldview, without losing their identity.

From monism to polytheism…from Heraclitus to Plato.

Socrates and Plato spoke of a one-god, and Platonism was integrated into Christianity…and?

Hesiod was a famous Greek writer talking about the corruption and decline of things where the common man or woman would endure tremendous suffering.

Why do you have this hangup on the self?

The self dies and perishes as do all things, such is the nature of impermanence.

Immortality is for the gods, in Buddhism the gods are known as Devas and even they being as powerful as they are also die.

My point is the same…as it always has been. Buddhism and Abrahamism emerge when population pressures necessitate dogmas of self-abnegation…

Necessity is what helps their popularity.

Just trying to figure out your negative viewpoint of Buddhism which is why I created this thread.

@Lorikeet

You’ll have to elaborate more on that for outsiders who are largely uninitiated with your form of thinking.

Because it contradicts Hinduism and its caste system.

Why Did Nietzsche Call Buddhism Nihilistic?

Nietzsche had immense respect for Buddhism. He saw it as superior to Christianity, calling it “a hundred times more realistic” and “the only genuinely positivistic religion in history.” He respected its rejection of a soul, a personal god, and sin.

However, he still classified it as a form of passive nihilism because:

  • Its goal is the cessation of willing. For Nietzsche, the will to power (the fundamental drive to grow, overcome, and create) is the essence of life. To extinguish desire is to extinguish life itself.

  • He saw Nirvana as a goal of negation (the end of suffering) rather than affirmation (saying “yes” to all of life, including its pain and struggle).

This is the deepest point of divergence. For Nietzsche, suffering is necessary for greatness. For Buddhism, unnecessary suffering (that caused by craving and ignorance) can and should be ended. The Buddhist goal is not to annihilate life but to live in perfect harmony with reality, which is a state of profound peace (shanti), not exhaustion.

Because it rejected imposed order?

If you worship power so much above all else you might as well join the Zionists.

If you cannot beat them, join them right?

If power is the only metric of valuation you possess.

I worship nothing…

Power is…whether you like it or not.

I only report…I do not support…

How is endless suffering not a cessation to nihilism? If anything suffering seems to amplify the nihilism you so very much despise.

Suffering is caused by unsatisfied needs over time.

Need/Suffering is the experience of existence. I ts cessation - self-numbing - is a fleeing from existence.

You clearly reject Zionism because it amplifies tyranny, so you clearly have some sort of moral or ethical framework regarding power otherwise you would instead join them.

Which is it?
