In these regions, the Buddhists are seen as little more than hillbillies to larger, more established economically successful Buddhist nations, though even then, compared to say India, Sri Lanka isn’t doing too bad economically.

No matter , which religion it is , it’s the same kind of act one can expect.
Never follow or represent any kind of civilization , religion , region , or linguistic . It will make you narrow minded and egoistic.
If science becomes religion , then theories will be holy scriptures , Questioning them will be an insult to Personalities , THE PROPHETS who proposed them .
So , that’s the reason , scientific analysis should be having premises for question from each and every way. It should not become religion.
Once some where , stated subject CALCULUS as subject of FALLACY - just based on definition of fallacy , and also
subject ALGEBRA as subject of RELATIVITY . And got kicked out .
Should have expected that action , when you have pictured Dr. Richard Dawkins as mohammad of religion science !!! :astonished:

Region where women and educated are respected should be your land and culture.
Be happy with your loved ones .stay away from any religion .

This isn’t really new. We only find it shocking that Buddhists would riot, fight and attack other people because certain elements in our society work so damn hard to romanticize eastern religion beyond all proportion or reality.

True dat. Maybe it’s a ‘grass is always greener’ type situation.

For many, it’s shocking because they’ve done some Buddhist practices, and they know from personal experience that these practices help you relax and feel more at ease with your surroundings.

But yes, human nature is what it is and all people are prone to violence.

There’s a lot that could be brought up here about the subject, but I just don’t have the time these days.

At least for the most part when Buddhists are protesting they only kill themselves, active violence has been rare in their long history. Same can’t be said of Christians, Jews and Muslims. In any religion there are always going to be those on the fringe though, as already said why should Buddhism be any different?
