Better than the brutal tax increases which the voters roundly rejected. The most egregious measure (1A) didn’t pass in even one county, the highest being 46% in super leftist San Francisco, Pilosi’s home district.
They’re trying to bring us all down to the level of “less fortunate”. That statement is nothing but demagogic bullshit. Trim the welfare roles to those who really need it and to what they absolutely need without worrying about their precious self-esteem, dump the pork and other government excesses, streamline the bureaucracy and get rid of the overabundance of bureaucrats with attitude that haunt every recess and cesspool in the government. And oh yeah, education that pays up to $15,000 per student needs to be trimmed.
More than likely, this will all be overturned in the courts as was the last such measure voted on by California, or it’ll just be skirted by the state/federal government ignoring their respective constitutions. Instead of increasing just California’s taxes, it’ll increase all of our taxes.
As I actually live in California, I can tell you the real message that was sent and it had
two parts. One: Fixing the budget mess is not the voters job. That why we have a state
legislature, it is your job to fix the budget. Two: Arnold is far more unpopular than
people realize. He is a terrible governor and people know it. These measures were
Arnold pet project and the people have rejected Arnold. That was the message sent.
I understood the legislature and press were behind them. I agree with your One:, only they’re making the further statement that they want them to fix the mess without more taxes.
