California Opposes Juvenile Sex Trafficking Bill, Citing Prison Costs

The proposed bill, SB 1414, would make it a felony to solicit or purchase a minor for sex in California, which currently classes it as a misdemeanor with a minimum of two days in jail.

Although Newsom has voiced support for the bill, his Finance Committee is worried about the financial impacts of the bill as well as how it could interfere with California’s declining prisoner numbers.

In a hearing on Wednesday, a representative for the Department of Finance said: "While we appreciate the intent behind the Bill, Department of Finance is opposed to it because of CDCR (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation) potential costs.

Is that reason enough, to oppose a bill that would protect minors from becoming commodities/goods and services… literally?

I know you might find this confusing, but this is exactly what is
supposed to happen in both government and business…
someone makes a suggestion, a proposal… and each team or
division gives its own reasons, as to why or why not this is
a good idea… instead of just accepting or denying a proposal,
they are investigating the various aspects of the suggestion…
as they should… the finance department says this, and the
labor board might say this and the justice department might
say this…that is a rather excellent way to govern…
take a look at all aspects of a suggestion and work out
all the possibilities… pro and/or con…

I would think you would want government to operate this way…
to seek out all options involved to make the best decision possible…

K: now for those who support the idea that California is some collapsed
state, note one of the sentences mentioned…

''because it could interfere with the declining prisoner numbers"

the declining prison numbers… that doesn’t strike one as a state
in collapse… a collapse state will have a rising prison number…
but not California… the crime rate is falling enough to impact
the number of people in prison… the gloom and doom crowd
that proclaims the end of society because of the ‘‘WOKE’’ state,
and in the primary ‘‘WOKE’’ state in America, we have the crime rate
falling… that does not sound like a state failing…

I know a really good way to cut prison costs when it comes to crimes against children.

K: and once again, it is a proposal, and all departments should give their two cents worth…
I know that is a difficult idea to grasp but try to keep up…

Did your mother try to exploit you as a child and you still think she’s awesome or something?

I’m not in those committees/departments and neither are you so what’s the point of not putting our two cents in by responding to the thread in the first place?

But I guess California’s committees/departments control everything and it’s not of, for, or by the people?

Two cents withdrawn.

How the fuck is that not already a felony? Jesus…

I was a civil Servant for 4 years and now dabble in politics for many, so no.

Yes… but it’s the way they went about it… on what planet is that opposal even an acceptable one to put forward as an option?

There is truly something morally-wrong with the Californian government, if those thoughts even entered their heads and became part of a policy paper.

So much for scrutiny.

We need to scrap the whole thing and start over without any pork.

PK loves CA laws making it no big deal to traffic children. He is a demoncrat after all.
