Canada: 1 / U.S.A: 0

That is so funny.

While it’s very funny, I’m convinced that it’s made up (unless you’ve got conclusive proof to the contrary).

No proof SIATD, I didn’t think it that important to follow up. But if someone wants to check it out, I’d like to hear.

I am still confused as to why the lighthouse did not divert. That was the United States Navy. Those arrogant Canadians were lucky we didn’t blow them to smithereens. Once again shows how the U. S. is compassionate and willing to work with the international community.

HAHAHA!

I think it is real…

I read it a while ago when I first moved to the east coast.

Sometimes it’s a Russian ship, sometimes American. This urban myth is decades old. But on the net everything is new to someone.

Aw man, that ruins it for me…and why would they use Russian?

You must be too young to remember the Cold War. I first read that little gem whilst in high school circa the early to mid 80’s.

Of course it is a story. No one who has ever been on a boat approaching a lighthouse could conceive of mistaking that lighthouse for another boat - even (nay, especially) on radar. These myths persist because they are allegories - people want to believe the “truth” that they contain. I will concede that special allowances may, and perhaps must, be made for canadians. But they are not so different from real americans - only they are healthier and more pleasant.

I still say it shows what a good world citizen the US is. Allegorically, which is even better.

Once, while driving my boat (which I try not to do anymore) I mistook a drunken college girl on spring break for a mermaid. I did not divert. Nor did she. She was surely no beacon of light, but I was no fleet commander.

That’s all I got - I just like bringing that up. I’m not telling you the rest.

My god! I distinctly see scrapings from paint that is only used on Newfoundlandian lighthouses. Is this photo digitally retouched? I am shocked - aghast. Who knew? I am so embarassed to be an american!

Oh, wait then. I already was. Never mind.
