As a democrat, I gotta say, getting michele bachmann or ron paul or rick perry as the GOP presidential
candidate would be great. Each is certifiably insane. When perry runs out his “every federal program is illegal”
speech that will play well during the campaign…not. Bachmann is a two-bit congresswomen whose only claim
to fame is insane comments and that leaves ron paul. a man whose only answer to any question is no.
a look back over the last 20 years the GOP runs out a worse candidate every time. bush sr. was a not much
of a campaigner, dole was not much. bush jr. was the single worse president in american history, and john
mccann has clearly never recovered from being torture. Al gore and john kerry were clearly better candidates then
bush jr. The best GOP president in the last 40 years has been obama. he has toed the GOP line far better then any
other candidate has in decades. I just hope someday we elected someone who is actually a democrat.
I foresee the liberal side of the democrat party leaving the party and creating their own party.
all they need is a candidate and the democrat’s split apart. leaving us in quite a mess with
4 different factions of two different parties. moving to Europe sounds better all the time.
I know. It’s truly embarrassing that batshit crazy politicians like secessionist Guv Goodhair (Perry) ever gain traction. That shows how high the ignorance and stupidity quotient has risen here In the good ole USA. Also, don’t forget how closely linked Perry and Bachmann are to Dominionism, the belief that “Christians” have a God given right to rule according to a defined-as-you-go “Constitution.” That in itself beggars belief, but there you have it. Perry has also said that he doesn’t believe in evolution or global warming and that Texas teachers teach Creationism. Too bad the teachers themselves say it aint so… Surely textbooks of a 6000 year old earth with Jesus and co. riding dinosaurs would be much more interesting than studying Darwin and DNA strands. Lol.
A large amount of the political caimpaigning is absurd as it is now Obama will most likely receive a second term. He’s the status quo and compared to a lot of these canidates it makes him look better.
Coventional wisdom has it that when the economy is doing badly, the incumbent president loses. It’s improbable that the economy will turn around drastically by 11/2012, so Obama is likely to lose. However, this is an unattractive group of GOP candidates even by GOP standards, so maybe he has a chance.
Per today’s WSJ “Texas Gov. Rick Perry has promoted his state’s tax laws as crucial to its economic vitality…” “…Texas relies heavily on its sales tax, through which poorer families pay a larger share of their income, though the state does exempt groceries, medications and some other items.”
The poorest 20% of Texans paid an average of 6% of their income in sales tax, while the top fifth—households with an income of roughly more than $126,000—paid 1.3%, according to an analysis from the office of the Texas Comptroller, the independently elected steward of the state’s finances.
“Texas is not a low-tax state if you’re low-income,” said Scott McCown, executive director of the Center for Public Policy Priorities in Texas.
Perry threatened Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and followed up with his doubts about the human contribution to global warming and skepticism about evolution. All in his first week out of the blocks.
Bachmann promised that if she were to become president, she would return $2 a gallon gasoline to the nation’s gas pumps.
And in a radio interview, she said voters were worried about the rise of the “Soviet Union” which hasn’t existed for 20 years. Bachman and Perry appeal to the same voters. Perhaps they will knock each other out of the running which would leave us with frontrunner Mitt “Corporations are people” Romney. Even the Republicans don’t like him much.
I can’t think of any of the GOP announced candidates who would have a chance at winning the election–in a normal world. But they’re good talkers and a lot of people listen and believe, without thinking.
The President hasn’t been allowed to do anything because the Repubs won’t allow him to. The President was forced to implement and/or continue the former administration’s policies, but the GOP doesn’t acknowledge that and most people either never knew–or have forgotten–that. The Congressional Dems are namby-pamby, and just as much controlled by corps as anyone else on the Hill. The whole system is out of whack.
And I agree with Jonquil–“That shows how high the ignorance and stupidity quotient has risen here In the good ole USA.”
I tend to agree, but I must say I’m tired of having to hold my nose and vote for the lesser of evils. I want a truly liberal, progressive candidate like Bernie Sanders or Dennis Kucinich.
i voted for obama…i no longer can vote for him…
there are no good republican candidates…
so i either vote for someone i dont know and dont care about or i dont vote…i have never not voted…
this may be the first tme…also for now i will not vote for any incumbent…certain things need fixing
and they are not fixed…

Obama is not a bad democratic president. He has delivered on a number of liberal goals: He’s ended DADT, he’s stopped defending DOMA, he’s recently scaled back enforcement of immigration laws to leave law abiding immigrants alone, and, lest we forget, he passed the most sweeping health care reform our country has ever seen.
Part of the problem is that people expected more of him than he ever intended to promise. That probably has a lot to do with his vague campaign themes about hope and change, which mean different things to different people. His major failings have been due to context: a recession (which he didn’t cause) stymied any hope of enacting progressive spending initiatives. The administration’s reaction to the recession was a good one, however, especially compared to other politically possible options.
As for the republicans, Romney and Huntsman are reasonable choices, but are also the most moderate of the GOP candidates. The Democratic party is praying for Bachmann, because she would be a synch to beat. Perry may be more difficult, but is probably still beatable. Romney would be the most challenging opposition because he appeals to moderates, but he has a lot of problems getting the support of his own party’s base. Huntsman has no hope of winning the primary.
I’m disappointed in Obama, but I’ll vote for him again in a heart beat considering the alternative. Perry is saying inflammatory things now to win the far Right base of his party. He is going to be pushing the Texas economic model and he’s going to be tough to beat.
Huntsman believes in evolution and global warming. He said, “You know, we live in the real world. It’s grounded in reality”. With radical views like that, he hasn’t got a chance in the Republican Party.
Kucinich doesn’t have a snowcone’s chance in the Sahara.
i’m one of those crazy mofos that still likes Obama - i think considering what he’s been dealing with, he’s been remarkably effective
lefties need to get with the program and realize that people like Obama are the best they’re gonna ever get - for better or for worse, electable candidates don’t come any more “liberal” than him.
I read today that the President is streamlining by getting rid of GovRegs that hamper business, especially small business, and computerizing things to eliminate paper work. The antis, of course, as saying it’s too little, too late, or that it won’t be worth a hill of beans, but I don’t see anyone else starting to try to get rid of old, outdated or conflicting regs.
It’s things like this that go unnoticed and uncommented-on that, to me, keep the anti-Obama propaganda alive.
