nobody really talks about chairs. they just make the jump to philosophy, as if the laws of physics and mankind has been bypassed.
like we evolve from animals then instantly make the jump to philosopher kings and gods, there is no physics or real world grounding intermediary step.
even though our society is foundationally built on chairs. We sit at school for 10 years and 7 hours on metallic and wooden chairs hard as stone. But people brush it aside as it doesn’t matter as if its a fact of life like oxygen. So much of our society is built on foundations that aren’t acknowledged as if its oxygen.
I sometimes wonder what types of chairs people on these boards use and why nobody seems to talk about it. It is like philosophy is up in the air and not part of the world. For example these different postures would likely result in very different types of philosophies and philosophical outputs:
Nope but I think I’ve heard of it before, but I don’t know what its called.
I haven’t sat in one so I don’t have an opinion, but it looks like a gimmick to me. No back or neck support and requires constant core muscle activation, it doesn’t seem possible to get any work done with that chair, or lounge for recreation.
This is it’s advantage. It encourages posture.
THere are other ways to improve a work environment.
A friend of mine has a desk that elevated so you can stand whilst working, he has a balance board to stand on too. so the body stays active..
The big problem with sitting is the inactivity and the dead pressure on joints espectially cartilege.
Do you know the name of it so I can look it up and research more?
Some of the modern theory of posture is a myth. For example they always say to sit upright as good posture. This myth has been debunked, because sitting upright harms the vertebrae. It is better to sit at an angle of at least 25 degrees.
It is because computers are vertical so they have to sit vertical to match the screen. if they had screens that were held in the air by a wall or ceiling then they could sit at a reclined angle. When a computer is vertical they usually end up craning their neck down while their back is reclining, which strains the neck.
Anyway, you say the advantage is that it activates the core muscles, so its not the same as normal sitting. I still think its not great but I need to research more to have a full opinion. My initial opinion is that bicycling is uncomfortable for more than 30 minutes and causes aches and pains. But bicycling has an advantage of putting all the front weight onto the handlebars. The head, neck, arms, shoulders and chest weight can be put onto the handlebars, but on the picture you sent she is just sitting. I assume your core muscles would wear out after 15 minutes of the chair you sent. So I assume the product is probably hyped up capitalist vaporware but I am not sure, I need to research it more.
I build a simple stage to elevate my computer screen by about 5inches, so I can look straight at it. I have chronic neck pain due to radiotherapy I had 17 years ago, so this has been a great change.
As for the chair. I’m bidding on one on EBay ATM, “Kneeling Chair Adjustable Height & Angle Ergonomic Stool with Padded Seat”.
But variously called " Kneeling Stool", “kneeling chair”
I imagine using it not all the time, but as a way to move out of the standard chair for limited periods. Mainly to change the circulation pressures, and ease the lumber spine.
Posture: Backless chairs do not provide lumbar support, which can lead to poor posture. Over time, this can cause strain on the back, neck, and shoulders. Support: Without a backrest, students may have to engage their core muscles to maintain balance, which can lead to fatigue and discomfort.7 Jun 2013
..was my exact experience, when sat in that [non]-chair.. even as someone who is physically sound, that chair caused me grief after only a short while of sitting in it.
.
The most comfortable/back-friendly chair I know of, is the spring-back recliner chairs.. they allow you to freely move back and forth in conjunction with your immediate posture needs.
Actually, the word “chair” is used more frequently than ever. That’s because it has replaced “chairman” or “chair person”.
It sounds strange to hear an otherwise sentient human proclaim, “i am the chair.” I long to reply, “Yes! And I am the ottoman.”
“Chair” has also morphed into a verb;
One can chair a committee and decide who gets to table a motion. I’d rather bed a beauty.
I think we need more furniture words. What if I don’t want to be a chair? I’d prefer to be a dresser, or a wardrobe (ideally one that leads to Narnia). Given the choice, I’d rather sofa a committee than chair one.
Funny topic. What if the elites are actually interested in creating mutilated offspring of the population? Education is just about imposing false representations of reality. Why not cripple not just the mind, but also the body? It’s all about breeding sick slaves, both mentally and physically.
It’s hard for you to realize that the form of education has been deliberately chosen to produce cripples. Why are there classes and suffering people sitting in them, instead of students? Are they prisoners? For what offenses?
Why only students? Kids in elementary school suffer too. These poor children are just brainwashed—turned into slaves and beasts. For example, what does a grade even mean? It’s like a public execution for the child, completely destroying any interest in learning. The little one tried their best, and then they’re made to look like a failure in front of their peers. Do you even realize how much this messes with a child’s psyche? Do you understand that education has become a process of dehumanization? It’s all been planned down to the finest detail. A person was once a human being—now they’re just an animal. That’s why no one here seems to understand anything human. Everyone is part of a herd—stubborn, brainwashed sheep. Funny, isn’t it?
