Choosing Moderators?

modified against your will, you say? I thought I had noticed something happening with some of mine. I’d read back over it to proofread after I post and would notice certain small things being the exact opposite of what I had meant to say. Just little things that I’d have to go in and fix.

I thought my subconscious was fucking with me, but that makes a lot more sense.

True (despite him having me on ignore). As are Uccisore and H_O. Carleas has more than half of what he needs already. It doesn’t seem that difficult to me to go ahead and do it right.

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions on that. It is very common for people to not type a “not” where they were thinking it but not paying enough attention to what they were typing, in effect saying the opposite as what they intended.

if it was just a simple matter of leaving a word out, I would not be jumping to conclusions. If not for it having been brought up by someone else who seems to have similar thought-structure to my own, I would not be jumping to conclusions. Even now, I am not jumping to conclusions. I am merely mentioning it since it was brought up and I had the same suspicion prior to it being brought up. It is now on the table and multiple parties are made aware of the possible problem. If people want to jump to conclusions; since this was brought up; that one of the moderators is changing peoples posts, then perhaps they should consider that possibility and be wary of it and be extra careful to proof-read their posts quite a few times to ensure that the same isn’t happening to them.

I am certain that Carleas will not be jumping to conclusions in assuming that one of his moderators is doing this.

Care to post what it was you remember saying and comparing that with what ended up being said? Maybe then we can assess whether or not is was a kind of typo or whether it seems something else is afoot.

Or you can create the posts most important to you in a wordpad document [it allows BBCode] and just copy and paste it onto a thread. See if there are any differences.

I always use wordpad first because from time to time there is a computer “glitch” and a post won’t even make it at all to the thread.

Word is my tool of choice. But then I could hardly work anymore without spell check.

The interesting and immediate thing to us here is the role that repetition tends to play in TlB [Troll-like Behaviors] tactics. And if we think about it, it is not that big a jump from the dogmatic notion of the moral good intimately tied with what can be perfectly repeated. We can see this immediately in their repeated use of such terms as objectivity, rationality, facts, the scientific method, etc… It is as if by repeating these terms, they’ll somehow take a kind of magical aura that will somehow reach beyond the precarious and limited nature of the terms. This can be seen in Rand’s use of the concept “objectivism” as if her repeated reference to the word “facts” could make her assertions about the ultimate and unquestionable superiority of Capitalism any more than what it actually is: pure speculation and self indulgence. And we can see as much in the hardcore materialist’s repetitions of the latest discoveries in neuroscience and the over-reach of translating this into the reducibility of the mind to the brain –a jump, mind you, that often leads to a claim that is dichotic opposite of a fact: the argument that there is some kind of general consensus among the academic community about it.

And enfolded within TlB phenomenon is the power of doxa and the implicit role of repetition in it. We have to admit that the terms above are popular ones. And there are a lot of popular notions concerning the import of them. The discoveries of science, and the technological benefits we have gained from it, would certainly seem to justify giving objectivity privilege over subjectivity. But we fail to see how the discoveries of neuroscience give the eliminative model of mind and brain privilege over the subjective experience of consciousness. Just like the quantifiable data of economics that may seem to show that Capitalism has given us certain advantages does not necessarily give the objective signs of growth privilege over the very real subjective experience of the misery and oppression that Capitalism brings into our lives. Still, it is through these appeals to doxa (notions that are repeated) that TlBs feel enabled to dismiss any opinions against them with such smugness. And we should note here how much it must make them feel like part of an in crowd by conforming to the values of Capitalism –once again: repetition.

Of course, they get away with it (at least to themselves) through the repetition of strength in numbers. This is why they tend to work in packs: to reinforce falsehoods that are right there on the string for everyone to read. This allows them a kind of cult dynamic in which they can fashion reality to their own needs by having others around them that have the same needs. They basically, through repetition and common notions about how things work (the repetition of doxa), create an internal feedback system that allows them to regress into a frenzy of representation in which the members seek certainty and validation by sinking into a reality based purely on mental concepts invented in their own mental labs. And they secure this certainty by never having to go into the world of difference and testing those mental concepts –another kind of repetition.

And this is the philosophy of identity and representation at its worst: the corruption of identity that, while useful to all, becomes malignant when it completely abandons a philosophy of difference or that which is the domain of the subjective and creative.

But what is really interesting here is the similarity of the TlB’s certainty through repetition to that of many religious social structures through the repetitions of chants.I mean how different is the repetition of such words as objectivity or rationality than say the repetition of “God is good”?
